- North West Route, covering Manchester, Liverpool, Lancashire and Cumbria.

**Brief Description**:
**What will you be doing?**

Support the management of incidents, accidents, emergencies including weather related incidents affecting the operational railway in liaison with colleagues in Network Rail, customer organisations and other agencies, as directed by the Route Control manager, updating the OIS system as required.

There are 2 x Support Controller (Relief) roles available

**About the role (External)**:
**Every day will be different, but you can expect to be involved in the following activities**:

1. Support the work of the Route Control Manager during both normal train running and disruptive events, to deliver the optimum service that meets the differing needs of the rail industry and customers.
2. Disseminate accurate, concise and timely information on the OIS screens, in accordance with Network Rail company standards and statutory requirements, to passengers, Train Operator staff, Network Rail staff and other railway Group members, relating to incidents.
3. Maintain a daily log of all safety, infrastructure and performance events displayed on the OIS screens in accordance with the relevant company standards and instructions.
4. Work closely with the Route Control Manager in the management of information flows within / out with the control organisation.
5. Manage and co-ordinate any weather related incidents or activities on a seasonal basis in support of the Route control manager and the weather strategy co-ordinator.
6. Call out and co-ordinate, as directed by the Route Control Manager, the activities of response staff including maintenance, operations, train operator, contractors, emergency services in response to an incident or event, to achieve safe and speedy recovery from incidents.
7. Monitor information arising from remote condition monitoring equipment, prioritising response, including the call out and co-ordination of appropriate staff and recording of information to deliver a prompt response to alerts.
8. Produce reports and supporting data to agreed specifications and co-ordinate the provision of other necessary control information to defined timescales.
9. Take responsibility for the creation of incidents and attribution of delay to the national standard within the agreed area of geographical responsibility. Monitor that all available systems are utilised to assist in identifying the correct allocation of delay code and responsible manager.
10. Monitor TRUST data collection/ input carrying out data integrity checks as detailed in the national standard. Confirm that missed train reports are input prior to the attribution of ‘D’ flagged TRUST delay alerts.

**In order to be successful in this role, we would like you to have/to be**:

- Good geographical knowledge of applicable Route.
- Experience within a fault management, maintenance, operations or rail industry control environment.
- Knowledge and demonstrable experience of control procedures, rules and regulations.
- Demonstrable skill in the use of Microsoft Office package and Control specific software e.g. FMS, MIMS, TRUST, TRUST DA, Tyrell or other communications system.
- Knowledge of Train Operating Companies within the route.
- Good team working skills and ability to make objective decisions.
- Able to influence others and work under pressure.

**We would also like but it isn’t crucial to have/to be**:

- Appreciation of signalling, p’way and electrification disciplines
- Geographical knowledge of adjoining Routes.
- Working knowledge of the NRN system and its correct use.
- Understanding of commercial/ business picture within Network Rail and TOC’s.
