Children's Learning Disability Matron

We seek experienced learning disability/mental health nurse with extensive background in children’s community/respite services, Band 7 level or above. A successful record of leading and inspiring teams, supporting the nursing voice and nursing strategy playing a crucial role in driving excellence, overseeing the delivery of high quality, safe and compassionate healthcare. Leading continuous improvement, innovative practices, and raising the profile of the impact of intersectionality in relation to children and young people with learning disabilities and/or autism in a person centred way within a framework of an excellent governance structure.
Visible and patient, family and staff focused you will lead services in a time of considerable change. You will work closely with matron’s and service leads for children’s complex physical health and mental health services.
You will be responsible for 3 children’s respite services, a community children’s learning disability team and children’s Intensive support team in the geographical locations of Coventry, Warwickshire and Solihull.
The Matron will provide senior clinical and operational leadership and supervision for the children’s community learning disability team, children’s IST and respite services to drive continually improving and high standards of clinical care. They will lead and drive quality improvement approaches to improve and sustain standards in all areas. This includes ensuring that Care Quality Commission (CQC) essential standards are met and exceeded.
The post holder will provide visible leadership and be available to staff, clients and carers and be responsive to their experiences of care and concerns. The post holder will work as part of the collaborative clinical leadership team across the children’s and young people directorate providing the foundation for strong, safe and effective multi-professional team development across all children’s learning disability community services.
The post holder will work in conjunction with the Head of Nursing, Associate Director of Nursing, General Manager and the Director of Operations with the delivery of strong and effective clinical leadership to deliver a positive working environment and quality clinical outcomes.
All leaders within the directorate will have a responsibility to work with
partner organisations from across the Integrated Care System (ICS).
This will include local authorities, primary care, acute providers, and
voluntary sector organisations.
All leaders will endeavour to learn about and understand these
organisations in a way which enables them to forge positive working
relationships, underpinning the fundamentals of integrated care
delivery.
As a key member of the directorate leadership team, the post holder will use their significant clinical and operational experience to provide knowledge to facilitate consistent best practice care at practice level in support of continuously improving clinical outcomes.
They will act as a role model for all staff demonstrating and promoting the organisation’s core values, beliefs and professional behaviours. The post holder will work alongside nursing, AHPs, Psychology and other clinical staff in planning care and risk management for individuals and their families, taking an active role when this is required.
It is expected that the Matron will promote awareness of clinical and non-clinical risk amongst all staff. This will include taking a key role in the future shaping and development of the services as well as day to day management of senior staff members. They will ensure that own clinical practice is kept up to date by supporting with complex cases, role modelling and supporting junior staff members in clinical practice. Ensure all local, Trust and national clinical guidelines and policies are implemented and to support the Head of Nursing and other key clinical leads in implementing NICE Guidance.
Matrons will work to deliver on the Quality Strategy across the children and young people’s directorate and will be responsible for supporting clinical practice development and ensuring that the fundamentals of care are right and that clinical innovations are rolled out in a timely and managed way.
