There is a exciting new opportunity in our newly refurbished SACT unit (Amberley) on the Worthing Hospital site for an advanced clinical practitioner role in our newly created cancer division.

The SACT units provide outstanding care and treatment to patients having treatment for cancer and those needing best supportive care.

The haematology & oncology services are highly specialised and multifaceted, requiring expert professional knowledge and skills to implement and develop patient education, staff training and education, outpatient pathways, inpatient management, and face-to-face reviews. The post holder will play a central role in these services and requirements including the development and implementation of nurse-led on-treatment SACT review clinics in collaboration with the medical and day unit teams.

The post holder will support patients receiving treatment through the day unit, providing advanced clinical skills, decision-making and advice to ensure patients receive their treatment safely. They will demonstrate expert understanding of the issues related to the identification, assessment, diagnosis, treatment, and management of the patient group, determining whether patients are to be treated with SACT and supportive treatments.

The post holder will support new ways of working that emphasise a more efficient and patient-focused service and will ensure the safe treatment and onward referral of patients with acute presentations as required.

Lead the ongoing development of clinical practice and standards of care within the service, including the development of policies, procedures, protocols and guidelines in collaboration with multidisciplinary colleagues.

Potentially be required to support an on-call/out-of-hours and in-hours/24-hour triage bleep holding responsibilities relevant to their role, as part of their agreed job plan.

Act continuously as a clinical role model providing advice and support to all staff working in the speciality, including medical and other students and trainees, nurses and doctors. Lead and support the development of the role according to changing patients’ needs, service requirements and evidence base practice.
