Children and Family Trainee Facilitator and Mentor

Cardiff, United Kingdom St Giles Trust Full time

**Job Summary**:
Do you have experience of working successfully with challenging people who have multiple and complex needs? Are you ready for a working life that is varied and rewarding and provides an opportunity for both personal and professional growth? Then join us as a Children and Family Trainee Facilitator and Mentor and you could soon be putting your skills and experience to excellent use.

About St Giles
An ambitious, well-established charity that helps people facing adversity to find jobs, homes, and the right support they need. Central to our ethos is our belief that people with first-hand experience of successfully overcoming issues such as an offending background, homelessness, addictions, and gang involvement, hold the key to positive change in others.

About this exciting opportunity
You will be responsible for supporting the delivery of preventative group on gangs, serious youth violence and exploitation to children/young people across schools/PRUs, and parents. Providing 1:1 mentoring support alongside SOS + Mentor to at-risk children.

Our award-winning approach puts trained staff with lived experience at the heart of the solution. Having previously been involved in gangs, crime, and street life; they are imbued with a passion and collective desire to ensure the young people they work with do not make the same mistakes they once did. This approach allows for pro-social modelling and our staff use their lived experience to offer an alternative to the ‘street’ narrative. It has proven successful where more conventional approaches have failed.

Our SOS+ Service has been delivering preventative sessions nationally for over 11 years. In 2021/22, we delivered over 1,000 sessions across the UK, reaching 105,000 children, young people, and adults; we have extensive experience in delivering professionals training and have delivered to police forces, teachers and other government bodies on strategies for tackling gang activity and serious youth violence.

What we are looking for:

- Experience of working successfully with challenging people who have multiple and complex needs
- Personal experience of the criminal justice system, or lived experience of the issues facing this client group (i.e. involved in gangs or knife crime).
- Knowledge of the issues facing this client group, such as gangs, knife crime, social exclusion and isolation, child criminal exploitation, adverse childhood experiences and trauma.
- Ability to actively listen and motivate young people.
- Ability to be a positive role model, demonstrating the virtues of a crime-free life to young people.

In return, you can expect a competitive salary, generous leave allowance, staff pension, flexible working, a mentoring programme, an advice and counselling service, access to clinical supervisions, season ticket loan and much more.

As an organisation that works with children and adults at risk we are committed to safeguarding, protecting and promoting the safety of our clients. An enhanced DBS check with barred list is required for all successful applicants.

Closing date: 11pm, Sunday 15 January 2023. Interview date: 24 January 2023 Cardiff Office.

St Giles will guarantee to interview all disabled applicants who meet the minimum criteria set out in the Job Description for the vacancy.
