**Job Purpose**-The School of Cardiovascular and Metabolic Health is one of eight Schools within the College of Medical, Veterinary and Life Sciences at the University of Glasgow. The School is internationally leading in the areas of research, education (at undergraduate and postgraduate level) and has a wide ranging internationalization, engagement and enterprise portfolio. Research in the School focusses on the areas of cardiac diseases (including but not limited to ischaemic heart disease, heart failure, arrhythmias and cardio-oncology), metabolic diseases (including but not limited to diabetes and obesity) and vascular diseases (including but not limited to hypertension, cerebrovascular disease and kidney disease), supported by a cross-cutting research theme in cardiovascular data science. The School is proud of its translational research strategy from fundamental and discovery science to experimental medicine, epidemiology, clinical trials and implementation research.

**Main Duties and Responsibilities**
1. Play a leading role in the management and development of an internationally leading research programme, making a significant contribution to knowledge in the field of cardiovascular and/or metabolic research which aligns with the strategic mission and research strategy of the School, the College of Medical, Veterinary and Life Sciences and the University to bring the project to a successful completion, including establishing and maintaining external collaborations both nationally and internationally.
2. Play a leading role in the planning, design and conduct of research, individually or jointly, in accordance with the project deliverables and the School’s and College’s research strategy.
3. Establish and maintain an extensive research profile and reputation and that of the University of Glasgow/ School/ Research Group and sustaining a track record of independent and joint publications of international quality in high profile/quality refereed journals, enhancing the research impact in terms of economic/societal benefit, and gathering indicators of esteem.
4. Play a leading role in the presentation of research findings at high profile national and international conferences, seminars and meetings to enhance the research profile of the project/Institute/College/University.
5. Lead the development, both independently and in collaboration with others (including stakeholders) of the identification of potential funding sources and lead in the development of proposals to secure funding from internal and external bodies to support future research of international quality.
6. Take a leading role in developing and maintaining collaborations with colleagues across the project and in the broader School/College/University and wider community (e.g. academic and other collaborators/partners).
7. Play a leading role in the organisation, supervision, mentoring and training of undergraduate and/or postgraduate students and less experienced members of the project team to ensure their effective development.
8. Perform administrative tasks related to the activities of the research group and School, including Budgets/Expenditure.
9. Supervise Masters students and act as co-supervisor to PhD students as assigned by the Director of Institute and/or senior group leader.

11. Keep up to date with current knowledge and recent advances in the field/discipline in order to provide advice and guidance to students and less experienced colleagues.
12. Engage in personal, professional and career development, to enhance both specialist and transferable skills in accordance with desired career trajectory.
13. Undertake any other reasonable duties as required by the Head of School.
14. Contribute to the enhancement of the University’s international profile in line with the University’s Strategic Plan, Inspiring People Changing The World.
