Spinwell is recruiting for a Divisional Director of Nursing for Cancer for an excellent opportunity within the public sector.

RESPONSIBILITIES OF THE DIVISIONAL DIRECTOR OF NURSING FOR CANCER

Reporting to the Chief of Service and working in partnership with the Divisional Director of Operations and Corporate Nursing leaders, the Divisional Director of Nursing/AHPs provides senior leadership for nurses and support staff, ensuring patients and staff are safe, cared for and listened to. The post holder will be committed to the principles of devolution of decision making to clinical teams. The post holder will be skilled at coaching individuals to enable them to deliver the very best clinical care and will lead the development and delivery of clinical and professional standards and the development of leadership capacity within the division.

The post holder will be accountable for the review of the nursing and associated AHP and support workforce across the division and ensuring safe staffing levels across relevant sites and services. They will work collaboratively with other divisions to facilitate safe, high quality care provision.

The post holder will act as the divisional lead for complaints and all matters relating to patient experience. They will take the lead for Clinical Governance and Risk Management ensuring processes are in place for the monitoring, management, and analysis of incidents. They will be required to support and lead on the delivery of the wider corporate nursing and quality agenda in collaboration with DDoN colleagues and under the direction of the Chief Nurse.

The post holder will be accountable for the divisional delivery of agreed Trust level nursing objectives, targets, and quality standards. In collaboration with the Chief of Service and Divisional Director of Operations (DDO), the post holder will take the lead at divisional level for the delivery of the Patient First and True North strategies, leading on the Trust Breakthrough objectives pertinent to nursing and AHPs for their division.

The post holder will take joint responsibility with the DDO on the continual evaluation of improvement strategies implemented through agreed KPIs and data collection, reporting directly to the Chief of service on progress.

In collaboration with the Chief of Service, and Divisional Director of Operations, the post holder will lead on the development and delivery of the division’s strategy for their services, developing a clear, detailed and shared understanding of the respective sites’ performance, flow and configuration. They will use their in-depth knowledge and understanding of the strategy to inform better operational decisions and the planning and prioritisation of change.

SKILLS/EXPERIENCE OF THE DIVISIONAL DIRECTOR OF NURSING FOR CANCER

* Registered Nurse/Midwife, 1st Level /1st Level Degree

* Master’s level qualification or evidence of post graduate study

* A comprehensive / specialist understanding of the safeguarding children and adults’ processes

* Considerable experience at senior nurse level (e.g. Matron) in an acute Health Care setting

* Extensive knowledge of complex and acute (staff management/financial management and change management) including sound knowledge of public involvement.

* Extensive knowledge of and experience in the operational management of hospital services.

* Sound understanding of Health Service policy.

* Sound understanding of the National nursing and patient agendas.

* Advanced management / leadership experience of clinical teams

* Sound understanding of Clinical Governance and Risk Management processes.

* Clinically credible

* Sound medical or clinical judgement.

* Ability to convey highly complex and contentious messages.

* Able to lead, motivate and influence individuals both within and external to the organisation.

* To facilitate good working relationships with other colleagues across Trust and Health Economy

* Able to interpret complex information and take appropriate action and to provide expert advice as a result.

* Demonstrate political judgement and intellectual flexibility.

* Identify and interpret trends taking appropriate action as required.

* Evidence of having undertaken own development to improve understanding of equalities issues
