We invite you to apply for a rare opportunity for a highly experienced Clinical Psychologist to join the North Wales Adolescent Service (NWAS).
NWAS provides the Intensive Community Support team and Inpatient Ward for Young People age 12 - 18 from North Wales. You will take the lead for the psychological intervention provision for the unit. You will also work directly with a small clinical caseload and indirectly through 2 lively MDTs by providing advanced psychological assessment, formulation, intervention, leadership and supervision. You will contribute to team training, service development and evaluation and be encouraged to create links with the wider senior network across the region.
We will encourage and support you to pursue your own areas of CPD such as leadership training, research or gaining increased competence or accreditation in a relevant therapeutic model.
Lead responsibility for clinical decisions which require analysis, interpretation and comparison of options.
# Provide a highly specialised clinical psychology service to clients.
# Delegated responsibility from the Head of Child Psychology, for professional leadership, planning, provision and review of BCUHB Child Clinical Psychology Services.
# Responsibility for professional leadership and management of psychology staff.
# In collaboration with the Head of Child Psychology, devise, develop, interpret, and implement discrete policies and service developments, develop psychological therapy provision and ensure clinical governance processes are implemented.
# Provide highly specialist advice and consultancy on Child Psychology issues.
# Ensure provision of child clinical placements for North Wales Clinical Psychology Programme (NWCPP) doctoral trainees and provide supervised placements.
# Provide teaching and training for multi-disciplinary BCUHB staff and the NWCPP.
# Utilise highly specialised research skills for audit, policy, service development and research.
# Responsibility in conjunction with the Head of Child Psychology, for recruitment of clinical psychologists.

Good Honours degree in Psychology.
Post-graduate Doctorate in Clinical Psychology (or its equivalent for those trained prior to 1996) as accredited by the BPS.
Registration with Health & Care Professions Council (HCPC) as a Clinical Psychologist.
Clinical supervision training for supervising Doctoral trainees.
Attendance at formal management and health leadership training programmes.
Doctoral level advanced specialist knowledge of clinical psychology theory and practice, psychological therapies and their application, neuropsychological and psychometric assessment and interpretation.
Doctoral level knowledge of research design and methodology, including complex multivariate data analysis as practised within clinical psychology.
Attendance at several taught post-graduate course and pursuit of supervised self-directed study in specialist field.
Knowledge of relevant legislation and its implications for both clinical practice and professional management in relation to Psychology.
Evidence of Continuing Professional Development as recommended by the BPS and HCPC.
Post-doctoral training in one or more additional specialised areas of psychological practice.
Highly developed knowledge of the theory and practice of specialised psychological therapies in specific difficult-to-treat groups (e.g. personality disorder, dual diagnoses, people with additional disabilities and severely challenging behaviours etc).
Highly developed knowledge of the theory and practice of highly specialised psychological therapies and assessment methodologies.
Formal accreditation in one or more psychological therapies e.g. Recognised qualification in supervision.
Advanced training in research design and methodology.
Record of publications in peer reviewed or academic or professional journals and/or books.
Sufficient experience to demonstrate a level of competence to satisfy the assessment requirements of two BPS/DoH National Assessors in Clinical Psychology for entrance into Consultant Grade.
Demonstrates further specialist training/experience through having received extensive and demonstrable clinical supervision of working as a highly specialist Clinical Psychologist or an alternative agreed by the Director of Psychology.
Extensive experience of exercising full clinical responsibility for clients' psychological care, with experience of co-ordinating care within the context of multi-disciplinary care-planning.
Extensive experience of providing teaching, training and/or professional and clinical supervision.
Experience of the application of clinical psychology in different cultural contexts.
Experience of representing psychology within the context of multi-disciplinary care.
Well-developed skills in providing consultation to other professional and non-professional groups.
Ability to prepare and present clinical and academic material for lecturing/training purposes, including the use of a variety of complex multimedia materials.
Ability to make clinical and service-related judgements involving highly complex facts requiring analysis, interpretation and comparison of several options.
Ability to evaluate critically research evidence relating to clinical effectiveness and service development and present findings to colleagues at all levels.
Ability to plan and organise a broad range of complex clinical or service-related activities and programmes, some of which may be long-term.
Ability to formulate, develop and implement policies and strategic long-term service developments within the Child Psychology Service, and with impact beyond the area of activity.
Ability to professionally manage Clinical Psychologists, Assistant Psychologists, and provide leadership within the Child Clinical Psychology Service.
Well-developed skills in the supervision of other staff, including trainee and qualified Clinical Psychologists.
The ability to identify and provide appropriate means of support to line-managed staff who deal with highly distressing situations, severely challenging behaviours and other stressors.
Formal training in neuropsychological and psychometric assessment demonstrating ability to carry out complex simultaneous manipulation of test material, observations and data recording, and achieve required level of accuracy, speed and co-ordination.
Capable of maintaining a high degree of professionalism and safe clinical practice in the face of regular exposure to highly emotive material and challenging behaviour.
Ability to demonstrate a range of qualities essential to the role, eg compassion, competence, communication, courage and commitment.
Ability to travel within geographical area.
