Why LSTM?

The Liverpool School of Tropical Medicine (LSTM) is a centre of excellence in research and postgraduate teaching in the field of tropical medicine. It is the oldest institution of its kind in the world and has been at the forefront of training leaders in global health since 1898. As we embark upon our 125th anniversary, we continue to focus on providing high quality scientific evidence and translating our scientific discovery into policies and practices. We do that by working collaboratively in over 70 countries to fulfil our mission of improving the health of the world’s poorest people.

Our multidisciplinary approach to global health research allows us to translate research innovation and scientific breakthroughs from laboratory research into effective interventions for those most in need, working in partnership with researchers and academic organisations in Low- and Middle-Income Countries.

The Department of Vector Biology is at the forefront of vector biology research. Our diverse portfolio encompasses understanding the genomics and behaviour of disease vectors to implementing innovative tools for disease control. With a mission to combat vector-borne diseases affecting the world's most vulnerable populations, our department pioneers research in genomics, vector behaviour, and disease ecology, driving impactful interventions against diseases like malaria, sleeping sickness, and dengue. We are a multidisciplinary team dedicated to developing novel approaches and tools for vector control, with a vision to eliminate these diseases as global public health threats.
