The role

An opportunity has arisen for an experienced Assurance & Compliance Manager to join Major Projects initially working on the Southern Integrated Delivery project.

Key accountabilities

The key duties will include:

  • Inspire others to develop and maintain a strong culture of Right First Time, by engaging with relevant stakeholders, delivering communications and visits to site.
  • Proactively lead and manage a team of 2 x Quality Engineers.
  • Work with Engineering teams to develop a progressive and proactive quality assurance regime for the project, which ensures that all client requirement/specifications are fulfilled, and work is of a high standard.
  • Design, implement and manage robust systems to capture of costs of error.
  • Oversee the ITP process, ensuring that documentation is fit for purpose, mitigates risk, and promotes improvement.
  • Co-ordinate compliance to the requirements of ISO9001, ISO14001 and ISO45001, Safety Certificate / Principal Contractors Licence and Network Rail and RSSB standards.
  • Create an audit and inspection regime which reinforces compliance with these requirements, whilst supporting local delivery efforts and the most efficient use of resources. Lead and undertake inspections and audits where required, reporting and implementing lessons learned.
  • Take the lead on external audits/third party assessments/client visits in relation to quality.
  • Develop, implement and report Key Performance Indicators that effectively demonstrate the quality of delivery performance. Take a lead role in analysing trends using numerical and statistical techniques. Translate these trends into improvement plans and irreversible corrective actions.
  • Update the Integrated Management System (IMS) with incidents, solutions and improvements.
  • Assist the Procurement team to assess sub-contractor compliance to legal and contractual requirements, via supplier monitoring and/or audit. Support relevant subcontractors to improve their processes and close out non-conformities.

Skills & experience

You will be self-motivated with a pro-active approach and have experience of working under pressure and meeting tight deadlines. Problem solving, communication and good interpersonal skills are a key requirement for this role. The candidate will also ideally have the following experience/skill set:

  • Hold an Internal Auditor Qualification in ISO9001.
  • Experience in a Quality Engineering role ideally in the rail/construction industry.
  • Experience of driving change and performance improvement in an Engineering or Construction organisation.
  • Experience of writing quality management plans and monitoring inspection and testing plans.
  • Hands-on experience with conducting audits.
  • Good understanding of Engineering documentation.
  • Familiar with Network, Rail and RSSB standards.
  • Experience of root cause analysis techniques such as 8D, Ishikawa, 5Whys.
  • Proficient in MS office applications (Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint and Outlook)
  • Excellent data analysis skills.
  • Good communication and organisational skills.
  • Full driving licence.
