The Intensive Support Team provides a rapid, time limited, community based assessment and treatment service for people with learning disability living in Hertfordshire, who challenge services and have additional mental health needs. IST seeks to provide an alternative, where appropriate, for Service Users to hospital admission, so as to minimise further disruption to their lives and to the people who care for them. We are looking to appoint an enthusiastic and forward thinking Learning Disability Nurse to join the Intensive Support Team (IST) in East & North Hertfordshire. This is a full time, 37.5 hours a week, permanent position, flexible over 7 days.

They will be passionate about learning disability nursing and be willing to actively participate in the continuing development of the existing nurse team and beyond this be able to work with the challenges of this developing service.

The successful candidate will be responsible for a clinical caseload, under the supervision of the Clinical Team Manager and will share responsibility for the support and supervision of junior staff in the team.

In return you will have many opportunities to develop professionally by the provision of regular supervision both on a 1:1 basis and peer group and opportunities to maintain your CPD by accessing post graduate education.
Applicants must have an awareness of the health needs of this service user group, have excellent communication and leadership skills, be keen to extend their skills in a supportive environment, and be able to work effectively in a multidisciplinary team.

Applicants must possess proven skills in assessment, planning, implementation and evaluation of care for people with learning disability and mental health needs, within current care philosophies for learning disability services.

It will be necessary to practice in a variety of bases and settings and therefore they will need to be competent with prioritizing service user's needs within the legislative and risk assessment framework.
