This permanent post is an opportunity for a clinician to work in an enthusiastic, innovative, supportive and experienced Early Intervention team.
BANES Early Intervention Team is a multi-professional team working across CAMHS and Adult Mental Health Services, providing care for people aged 14-64, presenting to mental health services, often for the first time.
The post involves using psychosocial interventions and working with people experiencing a first episode psychosis. You will work closely with carers and families. The service is part of an AWP Trust wide Early Intervention Service with strong links to the Southwest and national networks.
We are forward thinking and have research workers embedded within the team. We deliver NICE-approved, evidence based interventions, including CBT for psychosis, family work, occupational and vocational advice/interventions, alongside pharmacological interventions. In addition, all team members are involved in the facilitation social, activity, and carer's support/education groups.
We are seeking someone who is enthusiastic and passionate about providing excellent care for service users and who is committed to team working. You must be an excellent communicator, have a flexible approach to your work with a good knowledge base of the principles of Early Intervention in Psychosis.
To plan and implement specialist programmes of care for young people following the first appearance of psychosis, including carrying a specialist caseload of clients and acting as care co-ordinator
To liaise and work in collaboration with other agencies in planning and assessing programmes of care
To cofacilitate social and therapeutic groups
To co-deliver educational group to service users, other teams and the wider public
To provide specialist advice to young people, carers and professionals
To develop awareness sessions around psychosis and early intervention to be delivered within education and youth services
To provide clinical supervision to junior staff, students and supportworkers
To undertake audit, research and development activities.
This role is focussed on providing appropriate, effective interventions and treatments to people with Psychosis and their Carers (including friends and relatives) and their supporters in the community, enabling and assisting them to meet daily health, social care and wellbeing needs, in line with personal recovery goals, and facilitating engagement with mainstream services.

Job description Job responsibilities To work within the Early Intervention for Psychosis Service delivering all components of the established Early Intervention modelTo provide comprehensive and specialist assessment of young people between the ages of 14 to 64 years referred to the Early Intervention Team with a first episode psychosis or possibly emerging psychosis. This will include the use of formal psychiatric and psychological rating scales, as well as liaison with carers and staff from other agencies that may be involved with the young person.
To provide advice and to assist other members of the Early Intervention for Psychosis Service with interventions which draw on own specialist professional knowledge (for example, an occupational therapist specialist would be expected to advice on and carry out specialist occupational and vocational assessments).
To provide advice and support to carers/ relatives of young people, and to provide structured family work to families where a young person has a first episode or emerging psychosis.
To assist in the transfer of appropriate cases between the CAMHS and Adult Services, in keeping with need and service user wishes.
In line with Trust policy, to receive regular clinical supervision and to participate in clinical and caseload supervision arrangements provided by the Early Intervention for Psychosis Service.
To participate in the development and delivery of teaching and training where appropriate. In particular to plan, develop and deliver training around psychosis and the importance of early intervention to young people, carers and staff within schools, colleges, youth organisations and other community groups.
To provide clinical supervision for students, support workers and junior staff.
To be aware of and comply with all policies, procedures and directives of the Early Intervention for Psychosis Service as well as the Trust.
To maintain and further develop high standards of professional practice through co-operative work with other mental health professionals and involvement in professional audit. Person Specification Qualification Essential
- Professional qualification and registration in mental health nursing, social work, CAP (clinical associate in psychology) or occupational therapy
- At least 2 years post registration experience.
- Experience of and commitment to multi-disciplinary/whole team working.
- experience of working with young people
- Clean driving license and access to a car.
- experience of facilitating groups
- CBT experience
- systemic family work experience
- Good knowledge and skills in psychiatric assessment / formulation with client group. Understanding of FEP and role of early intervention in psychosis teams
- Experience of assessing psychosis via standardised assessment tools.
