Do you want to expand your experience of working in a Complex Emotional Needs (CEN) within primary care service on a 1 year fixed term contract or secondment?

In order to cover maternity leave we are looking for an enthusiastic and motivated psychological practitioner join our team on a 1 year fixed term contract or secondment.

The BaNES, Swindon and Wiltshire (BSW) Primary Care CEN Service is a developing team aimed at offering evidence based interventions to clients (primarily young adults between the ages of 18 and 25) within the primary care setting. We have been working over the last year to develop a short term, DBT informed group intervention to help clients to develop skills in emotion regulation, interpersonal effectiveness and distress tolerance.

The principal purpose of the job is to provide assessment, formulation and co-delivery of a DBT skills group intervention. The successful applicant will join a collaborative and passionate team who are focused on improving the lives of people who have complex emotional needs who may have a diagnosis of personality disorder.

We are looking for any accredited psychological therapist/clinical psychologist with experience in Dialectical Behavioural Therapy (DBT)/Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT).

Main duties of the job

Improving the psychological health and wellbeing of people within the post holder's specialist field of practice, being individuals 18-25 with complex emotional needs.

Ensuring the systematic provision of a high-quality therapy service in a specialist field of practice, across an identified area, as a key component of integrated mental health and wellbeing services across the BSW Integrated care system.

To be responsible for the coordination of services and to promote effective liaison between agencies.

To be responsible for the development of specialist care interventions and care plans.

To support other members of the MDT with training in mental health best practice to support delivery of appropriate and effective care.

To work collaboratively with other clinicians and practitioners within with wider health, social care and voluntary sector communities as appropriate.

To carry a specialist caseload of clients and providing advice and consultancy to patients and professionals and complex assessments.

To work autonomously within professional guidelines and exercise responsibility for the systematic governance of psychotherapy/therapy practice within professional and Trust guidelines as a clinical specialist.

To promote collaboration and new ways of working across a wide variety of statutory and non-statutory organisations.

Job responsibilities

CLINICAL

To provide a psychologically informed service to the personality disorder pathway including assessment and specialist formulation for individuals and carers as appropriate.

To provide specialist consultation and supervision to the personality disorder pathway and other agencies providing care for the client group.

To carry out specialist assessments and provide specialist evidence basedtherapy to individuals and groups as appropriate.

To participate in clinical and caseload supervision arrangements provided within the personality disorder pathway team.

To liaise with Recovery teams, PCLS, Primary care and other services and identify appropriate care pathways for patients with complex emotional needs/personality disorder.

To work jointly with colleagues within primary and secondary services offering consultation, and case-based discussion and providing expert advice.

To participate in generic team duties as agreed by the team manager, asappropriate to the needs of the service.

To maintain accurate records and to monitor clinical workload using agreed systems.

To support the full implementation of CPA acting as a care co-ordinator as appropriate to the needs of the service.

PROFESSIONAL

To be accountable for own professional actions and to fully observe the relevant Code of Conduct for your professional body.

To be aware of, adhere to, and where appropriate, contribute to the formulation and review of Trust, and teams' policies and procedures.

SERVICE GOVERNANCE

To promote the use of effective interventions in the service.

TRAINING AND STAFF DEVELOPMENT

To provide training, supervision and reflective practice to assistants, trainees and team members as appropriate to experience level.

To collaborate with colleagues to develop and offer training courses, workshops and supervision groups to develop skills in psychological interventions and related approaches for staff in the locality.

To contribute to the teaching of students and trainees in psychology, medicine, nursing and other health care disciplines.

To agree a plan of personal development with the Clinical Lead and the team line manager.

SERVICE AND POLICY DEVELOPMENT

To collaborate with other specialist staff in the designated area to extend the range of specialist individual and group interventions available across the area.

RESEARCH AND DEVELOPMENT

To engage in research relevant to service priorities as appropriate.

To participate in and contribute to audit and service evaluation activities examining the effectiveness of current service delivery and leading to development of services relevant to client needs.

To provide advice, support and consultation to colleagues from other disciplines undertaking research in the area.

Person Specification

Skills

Essential


  • Doctoral Clinical/Counselling Psychology qualification (or in final year of training programme that will lead to this qualification), qualification as a Psychotherapist or Arts Psychotherapist at an accredited training institution or equivalent professional qualification (or eligibility for this within the next 6 months).
  • HCPC Registration, professional registration as an adult Psychotherapist, Arts Psychotherapist or Clinical Psychologist with UKCP, or other relevant body (or eligibility for this within the next 6 months).
  • Qualified CBT therapist accredited with BABCP, or other relevant body
  • Experience of delivering and/or training in CBT, DBT or MBT
  • Experience of working with a wide range of individuals with complex mental health problems
  • Familiarity with NHS ways of working, NHS systems and statutory obligations
  • Experience of formulating a person's difficulties from a psychological perspective and communicating to service users and multidisciplinary staff
  • Experience of offering clinical supervision and/or facilitating reflective practice sessions for multidisciplinary staff
  • Experience of developing and delivering training to support multidisciplinary teams and others as appropriate
  • Effective team player with good communication and liaison skills
  • Empathy/engagement skills with the client group
  • Ability to cope with workload pressure/prioritise workload
  • Ability to work autonomously
