Emergency Nurse Practitioner

Swansea, United Kingdom Swansea Bay University Health Board Full time

Within Swansea Bay UHB we recognise that frailty is associated with increased ill health, mortality, healthcare use, care dependency and reduced quality of life and have identified a high proportion, 40%, of our acute medical admissions are frail.

People with frailty often experience long waits in overcrowded admission areas and spending extending periods of time in these types of environments is challenging to their senses and increases immobility which leads to deconditioning and delirium. In an attempt to move people quickly out of admission areas like ED (emergency department) we are not always able to offer older people a frailty assessment before they are admitted. By failing to complete a frailty assessment (ideally within 30 minutes of their arrival at hospital) patients are at greater risk of hospital acquired harms.

Main duties of the job

Morriston has an exciting opportunity for an emergency nurse practitioner to work within the frailty unit, which is our new front door service. Providing care to patients presenting with, injuries, illness, acute exacerbation of chronic conditions.
