An exciting opportunity has arisen for a successful individual to join the School Nursing Team in Swansea Bay University Health Board.

They will have experience of working with children and young people. They should have a caring and confident attitude and excellent interpersonal skills and the ability to communicate effectively.

They will provide school aged children with a health surveillance service and health promotion service which promotes the physical, mental and emotional health of school aged children, enabling them to reach their potential in order to benefit fully from educational opportunities and to be able to make informed choices. This will include working with children & young people in schools, home visiting and working with families within community and group settings.

As an Assistant Practitioner, the post holder is expected to independently manage their own work and caseload, undertaking tasks delegated by a registered practitioner with appropriate supervision in place.

**Within the role, the post holder will**:
Be responsible for some elements of patient assessment, undertaken in conjunction with the registrant.
Implementing programmes of care, and modifying programmes of care as delegated by a registered practitioner.
Report regularly to the registered practitioner, recognising own limitations and seeking advice if they are unsure.
Delegate work to other unregistered staff within agreed protocols, and may supervise, teach and assess other un-registered staff.

As School Nursing is a public health service we deliver the school childhood immunisation programme for children and young people aged 5-16yrs.

An element of the role is to undertake the Child Measurement Programme and vision screening.

Delivery of health promotion sessions in schools.

Part of the role is working with parents/carers to support and offer guidance on childhood health issues.

The School Nursing Service plays an important role in promoting, protecting, and safeguarding the health and wellbeing of children and young people.

The ability to speak Welsh is desirable for this post; Welsh and/or English speakers are equally welcome to apply.
