Education Projects Officer APP and Student Belonging
Job Type: Full-Time.
The post holder will be responsible for development and implementation of pre-sessional and transition support for students from widening participation backgrounds as part of the university's commitments in its Access and Participation Plan (APP). This will include project management of a residential programme for students at the pre-enrolment stage to support transition into the university and development of resources and provision to support widening participation students in preparation for and during their time at the university. These activities will also include developing resources and support provision for members of staff from across the University who engage with students from widening participation backgrounds, for example, personal tutors.
The post holder will be also support the delivery of a portfolio of projects within the Education Office which support the University's strategies to enhance education and the wider student experience. They will work closely with the Education Projects Manager, and the Head of Education and Student Experience Strategy Projects, as well as a range of staff and students from across the University.
This position requires excellent organisational skills, with the ability to plan and prioritise a busy workload effectively in order to meet given objectives, adjusting priorities as necessary in response to changing circumstances or problems and demonstrating a flexible approach. The post holder will be responsible for organising and carrying out a variety of tasks and duties in order to meet required time and quality standards. They will be expected to have experience of working in higher education, with an interest in social mobility, learning, teaching and the student experience and will, ideally, have experience of working in a project support role.
You will provide project administration including maintenance of project documentation, organisation of meetings, taking notes and monitoring follow-up actions.
You will be managing the implementation of communication plans for internal and external audiences, ensuring effective communication of strategy implementation and working collaboratively with colleagues.
You will be monitoring expenditure against budgets, producing regular reports of spend against budgets, raising purchase orders and administering expenses.
You will be organising and supporting meetings and events, booking rooms, preparing committee papers (including regular project and programme reports), taking minutes, completing and monitoring follow-up actions.
~ Experience of working within higher education, with a sound knowledge and understanding of the student experience and the academic environment.
Ability to work independently and manage own workload to tight deadlines with little direct supervision.
Able to adopt a flexible approach by adapting to the changing needs of the role and the needs of the team.
Numerate with the proven ability to understand, interpret and explain complicated information and data (including financial data).
Understanding of the widening access and participation agenda within Higher Education.
Excellent IT skills, including working knowledge of Microsoft Office, including Word, Excel and PowerPoint.
