This role can be based remotely in the EMEA region.

Team Description:

MongoDB is seeking a Global Enterprise Technology (GET) Senior Manager to oversee the team’s engineering function globally. This new role will ensure GET initiatives align with department, organization, and company objectives. In addition, the Senior Manager, Systems Engineering, will be a key engineering escalation point, vital leader in driving inflection points in the careers of GET engineers, and a strong partner to the myriad of global stakeholders the GET team supports.

The Senior Manager, Systems Engineering, will split their time between managing three core functions of GET: IT Engineering, Corporate Support Services (CSS) Engineering, and Network Engineering. We are seeking a results-driven leader to orchestrate and prioritize the successful delivery of initiatives that bring high value and efficiency to GET stakeholders across the business. As MongoDB continues to grow, this manager will proactively identify areas to optimize resources and spend. The leader in this role will leverage individual contributor matrices and manager matrices to intentionally level up all members of the GET Engineering team.

The MongoDB GET team manages all elements of internal office technology infrastructure, including email administration, employee on-boarding, network administration, security access, asset management, and more. You will have the opportunity to develop, grow, and maintain the systems and processes that allow numerous teams the ability to maximize their efficiency through the use of technology.

We believe strongly in personal growth and mentorship so your ability to succeed is directly related to your desire to grow.

We are looking to speak to candidates who are based in Dublin for our hybrid working model.

Our ideal candidate will have:
  • 7+ years of experience in a technical people manager role
  • Experience coaching, mentoring, and/or managing a systems engineering team with at least 5 members
  • The ability to translate long term vision into attainable, actionable goals that motivate employees to go above and beyond in both their productivity and personal growth
  • Extensive expertise in the discovery, design, development, and implementation of complex technical solutions
  • Experience creating effective KPIs and monitoring support metrics to ensure optimal productivity
  • 5+ years of experience managing the budget of a systems engineering team
  • A proven track record of exceeding client expectations in an engineering leadership role
  • Hands on familiarity with the hardware/software technologies we use including macOS, Windows 10, VoIP, Zoom, Slack, Zendesk, Confluence, JIRA, Google Workspace, Splunk, Tableau, Github, Datadog, Docker, 1Password, PagerDuty, JAMF, Meraki, Cloudflare, Lumos, Workato, and Oomnitza
  • Proficient in monitoring and maintaining the health and performance of GET services
  • The ability to clearly communicate complex technical topics to a wide range of employees, from individual contributors to executives, in both verbal and written form
  • A naturally calm and empathetic demeanor under pressure, combined with the ability to concurrently solve multiple issues in real-time through both delegation and superior personal time management
  • A strong ability to troubleshoot and diagnose real end-to-end technical issues
  • Exceptional work ethic with strong intellectual curiosity
  • Self motivated and ability to work independently and with a global team
  • Ability to travel to regional and global offices as needed
  • A plus: have supported an organization of 10,000 employees or greater
Position Expectations:
  • Ensure GET Engineering policies, procedures, workflows, and systems are compliant to regulatory standards
  • Successfully manage and oversee the cross-functional relationships and details of GET Engineering projects and services
  • Provide mentorship as well as clear, attainable growth paths and opportunities to members of the GET Engineering team
  • Use metrics of incoming support requests to ensure KPIs are met and risks are mitigated, wherever possible
  • Identify areas to improve the employee experience throughout the lifecycle of GET tickets and projects
  • Leverage ticketing data and internal surveys to assess the impact of changes
  • Drive continuous support effectiveness improvements
  • Collaborate with GET Engineering Leads to ensure streamlined and appropriate escalations between Triage Support (L1), IT Support (L2), GET Engineering teams
  • Assist with vendor management including requirements gathering, research, evaluation and selection, renewal processing, etc
  • Conduct daily, weekly, and one-on-one meetings to ensure team/personal growth and maximize team productivity
Success Measures:

The Senior Manager will be successful in this role when they can execute the following strategic tasks/responsibilities:

  • Maintain an accelerated personal growth path:
  • In 3 months you’ll be fully up to speed on the services and technologies we own, as well as the processes we have to maintain them. You will have the ability to independently manage day-to-day leadership activities of the global GET Engineering team
  • Understand the goals and aspirations of all members of the GET Engineering team
  • Within 6 months you’ll be actively leading the development of novel solutions to inefficient processes and problems the business faces. You will be actively leading the team to greater productivity and personal growth by aligning team member interests with their day-to-day tasks
  • By 12 months you’ll be thinking largely in terms of higher level team growth and exceptional employee experience. You will have a full understanding of all the moving parts that make up GET at MongoDB
  • You’ll have a clear vision for how the engineering function can be augmented and optimized to meet both the current and long term needs of the organization
  • Customer Service: Provide an unparalleled employee experience by driving the team and its leaders to deliver top-notch technical support and projects
  • Communication: Successfully communicate team challenges and support solutions internally and externally, while having the ability to communicate complex technical issues simply and convincingly to a wide range of audiences
  • Research: Collect and analyze feedback from both our internal customers as well as our systems to better understand our clients’ needs and improve automation/optimization efforts through existing and prospective vendor relationships

To drive the personal growth and business impact of our employees, we’re committed to developing a supportive and enriching culture for everyone. From employee affinity groups, to fertility assistance and a generous parental leave policy, we value our employees’ wellbeing and want to support them along every step of their professional and personal journeys.
