Role

Scottish Refugee Council are recruiting a Policy & Public Affairs Specialist. This role will contribute to ourvision; for UK to have a fair, anti-racist and effective asylum and protection system and for equitable andconsistent integration policy in Scotland.

You will be passionate about making this happen through supporting Scottish Refugee Council to get its message topoliticians and decision-makers. A high standard of written communication is critical in this role and you willhave a proven ability to translate complex material into compelling narratives and clear asks for positivechange drawing on evidence from our direct work with refugees and organisations that support them inScotland.

You will hold strong influencing and relationship management skills and experience of how change happens throughpolitical institutions, political processes and government in Scotland and the UK.

We are seeking to recruit a Project Fundraiser to secure and maintain current and new income streams with thepotential to support the work of the charity.

The Project

The Louise Project is a Christian antipoverty project operating in Govanhill to enable families living with hardshipto live flourishing lives and to enable communities to thrive. Govanhill is the most ethnically diverse area ofScotland, and we welcome all people to receive support. The most recent migrant population to arrive are theEuropean Roma from Romania and Slovakia and they are the dominant group support by the project.

The project offers families access to 5 well researched programmes of support, to break the cycle of generationalpoverty, as follows:

  • Community Drop-in: Focuses on building relationships, home visits, providing a ‘space to be’ and access to essentials & a project shop that is run by beneficiaries.
  • Community Advocacy: Support to manage issues such as immigration status, housing, debt, utilities, welfare benefits.
  • Building Better Futures: Supports personal growth to enhance wellbeing and the development of transferable skills, i.e., literacy & digital skills, budgeting, college entry level classes and supported employment.
  • Building Community: There are over 60 languages spoken in Govanhill, racial tension can be palpable. Building social trust across ethnic groups reduces anxiety and discrimination.
  • Hopeful Futures: develops a sense of self, life skills and a knowledge and understanding of systems and the causes and consequences of poverty.

As a member Passion4Fusion’s Family Support Team and in partnership with other services and agencies you will supportthe development of practice, culture, and systems to improve outcomes for children and young people from theBlack and Ethnic minority community who are at risk of experiencing care or who have care experience. You willalso play a key role in supporting the delivery of the wider aspirations of “Keeping the Promise” to children,young people and their families in Scotland, through a transformation of the way care and support isprovided.

You will contribute to the development of approaches and systems that deliver a supportive workforce by equippingeveryone who provides a supportive role to children, young people, and families with the specialist knowledgerequired to respond to the unique and individual needs of families with migrant and refugee/asylum status. Yoursupportive role will help to improve outcomes and prevent many families reaching crisis point.

You will work as part of a core team, reporting to the Promise Lead but you will be required to build relationshipsand engage with a range of key stakeholders including children, young people, their families and carers,practitioners, and decision-makers both within the service and the wider partnership.

About the Role:

We’re seeking a highly motivated Training Manager to lead the learning and growth of our team.
