Public Health Intelligence Lead

About the Opportunity:
Public Health Scotland was established on April 1, 2020, with a mission to create a Scotland where everyone can thrive. By employing approximately 1200 individuals and operating with an annual budget of about £101 million, Public Health Scotland aims to boost life expectancy and narrow the life expectancy gap between different areas.

The Role:
We are seeking to fill permanent positions for Public Health Intelligence Principals within our Public Health Science and Analytics service. These roles will be part of the senior management team and will oversee the Evidence and Evaluation functions in the Population Health and Wellbeing Directorate. The responsibilities include identifying effective interventions and policies, conducting evaluations, and providing population health intelligence to drive changes that address health disparities and enhance healthy life expectancy.

By influencing national policies and providing the necessary evidence and intelligence for transformation in local systems, these roles play a crucial part in helping Scotland realize its vision of becoming a country where everyone thrives.

The Ideal Candidate:
The ideal candidate should possess a strong public health background acquired through a Master's level qualification in Public Health or a related field, or equivalent experience. Additionally, they should have:

  • Experience in senior leadership and management at a national level in Public Health.
  • A track record of conducting applied public health or social research utilizing various qualitative and quantitative methods.
  • Significant expertise in collecting, analyzing, interpreting, and presenting extensive and complex qualitative and quantitative data effectively.

The position will directly report to the Head of Service for Public Health Science and Analytics.

Location and Working Hours:
Work locations are at Gyle Square, Edinburgh, or Central Quay, Glasgow. Kindly note that Public Health Scotland will move from Central Quay, Glasgow to Bothwell Street, Glasgow in September 2024. The current working arrangement is hybrid.

The standard working hours are Monday to Friday, 37 hours per week, although flexible working options are available upon request. During emergencies or urgent business needs, temporary weekend work may be required to meet service demands. Applicants must be UK residents throughout their employment with PHS.

Benefits:
Offerings include a pension scheme, a range of work-life balance policies, occupational health services, learning centers, and discounts on leisure, financial, and shopping services. Full details of PHS Employee Benefits can be found on our website.

The application deadline is Wednesday 12th June.
