This is a substantive post for less than full time 6.5 PAs consultant paediatrician with academic duties. The candidate will be required to provide a comprehensive service covering all aspects of the specialty and will be expected to collaborate with the lead clinician in the management and development of the paediatrics service. Previous experience in hospital management would be a benefit. The post only provides general paediatric cover. There is an entirely separate neonatal service on site at all levels.
This unique position is suitable for a clinical academic paediatrician who wishes to further develop innovative clinical services for infants, children and young people who are living in the catchment of the Trust and beyond. The post replaces Professor Mitch Blair who established the successful River Island Academic Centre for Paediatrics and Child Health in 2007.
Adolescent health is an area of particular interest, especially supporting young people with complex care needs and in close collaboration with colleagues in the CAMHS and youth services. As young people transition to adult services there is a need to work collaboratively with adult physicians in the Trust and the post holder will have the opportunity to shape these services further.
The River Island Academic Centre is purpose built and houses research and teaching fellows and the academic secretary as well as the current undergraduate teaching lead for paediatrics; Imperial College sends around 10-12 students every 6 weeks for their undergraduate clinical education and training and the post-holder will work closely with the lead in supporting the teaching programme. Professor Blair currently co-leads Child Population Health modules in two master’s courses and the post holder will be encouraged to participate in these.
