Advanced Teaching Assistant

Contract Type: Full-Time

GSL Education are seeking an Advanced Teaching Assistant to work at an Alternative Provision in York, North Yorkshire, starting in May or June 2024.As a specialist school catering to students aged 5 to 16 with social, emotional, and mental health needs, they are dedicated to providing a nurturing and supportive environment where every student can thrive academically, emotionally, and socially.
The school supports a large number of students with additional learning or neurodevelopmental challenges, such as ADHD and Autism.
The skilled teachers, teaching assistants, pastoral support staff, and therapists that make up the school's team of passionate and experienced employees are committed to giving pupils the best possible care and education.
They create a welcoming environment where all members of the school community feel safe, at ease, and accepted.
The school’s focus is on academic achievement, personal development, and community engagement which reflets their belief in empowering students to become confident, responsible, and compassionate individuals ready to make a positive impact in the world.

Advanced Teaching Assistant Responsibilities:

Working under the direction of the class teacher to assist in the planning and delivery of the curriculum.
Working across different classes to provide 1:1 and small group support to provide additional support to identified pupils.
At times you may support pupils with an Educational Health Care Plan (EHCP), so you should have an understanding or awareness of additional needs such as autism and learning difficulties.
Contributing to the overall school community through active participation.
Advanced Teaching Assistant Requirements:

Relevant qualifications and certifications as a Teaching Assistant or a Degree related to Education or Psychology.
Understanding of Special Educational Needs (SEN) and experience working with students with diverse learning needs.
Passion for education and a genuine desire to make a difference.
Knowledge of behaviour management techniques and strategies for supporting students with SEN.
DBS sponsorship is available for this position.
