Job Function: Safety, Health, Environment and Resilience
Deliver Biodiversity Net Gain on a national scale

If you are an ecologist who wants to play a national role in one of the most exciting, urgent challenges of our time, we have a brilliant opportunity. As owners of the electricity transmission network in England and Wales, Net Zero cannot happen without us. We’re investing billions of pounds into the infrastructure projects needed across the country and are deeply committed to ensuring this work makes a measurable and long lasting improvement to the natural world.
We need a Principal Ecologist to help deliver our Nature Positive commitments including biodiversity net gain (BNG). This is an opportunity to use your skills and experience to collaborate with our internal teams, engineers, ecologists, contractors and strategic partners as an integral part of the design and development process. You will influence and shape the delivery of BNG and nature positive outcomes for an organisation aiming to become a world leader in environmentally sustainable infrastructure.
You’ll be helping reverse the decline of UK biodiversity by rebuilding and restoring the natural environment. You’ll be looking at nature-based and nature-positive solutions, contributing to national strategy and working with organisations like The Wildlife Trusts and RSPB.
You’re not going to be sat at a desk all day writing reports. You’ll be out on site one or two days a week, making a very real, practical difference. Your four key areas of accountability will be technical advice, project specific support and guidance; BNG data provision, reporting and assurance; We operate a hybrid working pattern where we would like to see you in our Warwick head office at least once a week but there is flexibility in how the other days will be spent working at home and on site at various locations.
This job is a fantastic opportunity to make a big difference by delivering environmental improvement on a national scale. You’ll be working with a huge variety of people, guiding them to deliver significant benefits to the natural environment.”
Christopher Plester, Net Gain Technical Lead
