Analyst Climate Policy (1 year Fixed Term Contract)
  • LOCATION:  Hybrid · London, UK
  • BASIS: Full-time (1 year Fixed Term Contract)
  • CLOSING DATE:  8:00pm, 5th May 2024 BST
Job Description

This is an exciting opportunity to join PRI to work in the field of climate policy and regulation. This one-year fixed term, renewable, contract aims to support PRI’s role as Secretariat to the Taskforce on Net Zero Policy, building on the work of the UN Secretary General’s High Level Expert Group on Net-Zero Emissions Commitments of Non-State Entities. The Taskforce’s focus will be to ensure that net zero commitments by non-state actors are underpinned with coherent policies and regulatory certainty.

The role sits in PRI’s Global Policy Team, which provides tools and insight to international standard setters, signatories and policy makers to advance progress towards a regulatory and investment environment consistent with the implementation of PRI’s Mission Statement and the Six Principles. More information on the PRI’s policy approach can be found on our website. The role reports to PRI’s Climate Policy Senior Specialist.

Core Responsibilities
  • Support the PRI’s role as Secretariat to the Taskforce on Net Zero Policy and the Global Policy Team in delivering against the team’s business plan and budget.
  • Analyse and assess climate and climate-related policy data and developments to support the credible implementation of net zero policy by non-state actors, in close conjunction with the Senior Specialist, Climate Policy, the RI Ecosystems Team, and the ESG Issues Team.
  • Proactively stay abreast of and analyse market trends and policy developments on climate and responsible investment, including emerging themes, debates and signatory needs.
  • Carry out desk-based research and external engagement (signatories, stakeholders) to build credible evidence base to support PRI’s work on climate.
  • Contribute to wider policy team projects (signatories’ advisory group, newsletters, regulatory database, events, other ad-hoc content and project support etc.)
  • Support capacity building as part of signatory meetings, workshops, webinars and other events
Person Specification
  • Strong understanding of climate change and the risks and opportunities it may pose for institutional investors, and how these risks may be addressed through policy reform and investor action.
  • Degree level studies (or equivalent) in areas such as environmental science, economics, finance, or other relevant area.
  • Previous experience in climate policy research and analysis, ideally as it relates to non-state actors such as corporates, investors or cities and regions, in research, financial, NGO or equivalent setting, is desirable, but relevant academic qualification may be sufficient.
  • Excellent written communication and verbal presentation skills
  • A collaborative and consultative approach to working with others, the ability to contribute to an inclusive working environment.
  • Comfortable speaking with senior stakeholders inclusive of industry leaders across various sectors (financial, civil society, policy)
  • Good knowledge of relevant IT/system skills (e.g. Microsoft Office, CRM, social media).
  • Excellent project management skills with strong attention to detail, good time management, multi-tasking and prioritisation capability

We particularly welcome candidates from under-represented groups, including Black, Asian, and other People of Colour, those with visible or non-visible disabilities, LGBTQ+ candidates and those who are neurodivergent.

The PRI is committed to offering flexibility to our employees, both formal (e.g. part-time work) and informal (e.g. a shift in hours to accommodate caring responsibilities). Please talk to us about how we could make this role flexible for you.

N.B. We reserve the right to close a vacancy before the closing date in the event of an overwhelming response or a change in business priorities.
