An exciting opportunity has arisen for a Skin Cancer Nurse Specialist/ Skin Cancer CNS to join our Plastic Surgery Service at West Suffolk Hospital.


You will join an established team and become a key member of the wider Plastic Surgery Department.


You will provide expert evidence-based practice and clinical expertise in caring for Plastic Surgery patients.


The post will entail surgical duties and assessment and management of skin cancer patients.


This post would be supported as a trainee band 6 post with clear training competencies for any successful candidate.
The post holder will work as part of the Specialist skin cancer Multi-Disciplinary Team (MDT) caring in collaboration with Plastic Surgeons and Dermatology Consultants, clinical & medical oncology teams to provide a service to patients, carers & health professionals.


The focus of this role will be to support in Theatres with local anaesthetic application, support in Outpatient clinics with Breaking Bad News and other communication needs, manage patients progress through the rapid access pathway in a timely fashion.

Adult and paediatric community services, provided in collaboration with West Suffolk Alliance partners, include a range of nursing, therapy, specialist, and ongoing temporary care and rehabilitation, some at our Newmarket Community Hospital.

The focus of this role will be to support in Theatres with local anaesthetic application, support in Outpatient clinics with Breaking Bad News and other communication needs, manage patients progress through the rapid access pathway in a timely fashion.
Accepts and makes referrals from and to other health professions as necessary e.g. Macmillan team, palliative care teams and community care teams.
To continue to promote a seamless service across the hospital for all Plastic surgery care.
Works in close collaboration with the staff within the hospital, advises and recommending on the nursing care and treatment of relevant patients, liaising with the MDT as appropriate.
To provide resources and facilities to meet individual needs.
To give relevant appropriate information both verbally and in writing.

1st level Registered Nurse with no restrictions to practice
~ Completed or willing to complete Level 2 Advanced Communication Skills Course.
~ Completed or willing to complete non-medical referrer training.


Post registration experience at a Band 6 level within surgical/oncology setting.
Awareness of cancer policy and its application in Skin Cancer setting
Good all-round experience of General surgical nursing
Demonstrable understanding of the NMC scope of prioritising workload.
Track record of building and maintaining effective working relationships and all disciplines.
Demonstratable commitment to education, training, and personal development.

Experience in Plastic Surgery Nursing
Knowledge of Clinical Research
Understanding the issues affecting Skin Cancer and Plastic Surgery nursing
Evidence of professional development & its relevant application
Experience of developing, training & education in clinical practice
Computer literate

Experience of developing, training & education in a clinical practice

Personal qualities
Demonstrate commitment to quality service provision
Able to travel to rural locations to carry out post
