Job summary

This is an exciting opportunity to work with the Cancer Management Team to develop this service working in conjunction with several key members of staff within the Trust. The post-holder will provide a specialist nursing service for patients with NSS (Non-site specific) symptoms and Cancer of Unknown Primary (CUP), or those on multiple pathways. This role will link in with all services across the Trust including ED and the Acute Oncology Service (AOS). It also has strong links into the Frailty Service and the Vague Symptoms Pathway including Lymphoma.

The post-holder will be passionate and have experience in working within cancer services. We are looking for someone with successful change management and have a good knowledge of NHS Policy, specifically Cancer Standards, who can establish effective working partnerships and therefore have excellent communication skills.

As part of the interview, shortlisted candidates will be expected to do a presentation entitled:- "What would you identify as your key objectives within the role to make a difference to patient care".

Main duties of the job

Providing a specialist nursing service for patients with (Non-site specific) NSS symptoms & (Cancer of unknown primary) CUP or those on multiple pathways. This role will link in with all services across the Trust including ED and AOS. This service will have strong links into the frailty service and the vague symptoms pathway including lymphoma.

Providing psychological support, expert advice, nursing knowledge and skills to patients and their families. The post holder will act as resource to advise, educate and support those involved in the care of patients with NSS & CUP. The post holder will need to work with the Trust management Team to improve the 62 day target and working towards 28 days faster diagnose.

Key Tasks & Responsibilities:

To triage patients who are referred on multiple pathways to the most appropriate single pathway or into the NSS pathway. To work with all multidisciplinary teams to provide expert clinical advice to staff, patients and carers across the Trust. To facilitate patients access to various diagnostic tests and support co-ordination of the pathway in accordance with agreed guidance To be the point of contact and manage the pathway for CUP patients. To track and monitor diagnostic tests and results for identified patients, escalating abnormalities to the responsible clinical teams. To be proactive in the setting up and establishment of this new service, actively engaging with other stakeholders to ensure that processes are robust and the service operates within the agreed guidance Works with the Cancer Management Team, Vague Symptoms service, AOS, the Frailty service and other cancer teams to review working processes and pathways in order to improve compliance with the 28 days faster diagnose target for NSS & CUP patients. Education & Qualifications

Essential

NMC level 1 ENB 237/A27 or cancer nursing degree ENB998/teaching qualification or equivalent Educated to master level, or equivalent experience
