IT General Controls Readiness Specialist

IT General Controls Readiness Specialist, Contract (outside IR35), Rate £500 - £600 p/d. 3 months initially but told highly likely to extend. Candidate must be prepared to be in central Edinburgh office 1, perhaps 2 days per week but potentially not every week.
Summary:
The IT General Controls (ITGC) Readiness Specialist will be responsible for assessing, developing, and implementing effective IT general controls across Be-IT's client to ensure compliance regulatory requirements. This role will focus on preparing the organization for audits, improving IT control environments, and supporting overall IT governance, risk, and compliance (GRC) objectives.
The individual will work closely with IT and business teams to identify control gaps, design solutions, write process and policy documents and ensure a sustainable controls framework.
Initial Responsibilities (2024 Audit) ITGC Readiness Assessment:
o Identify a prioritised set of gaps in current control environments and develop action plans to address weaknesses.
o Collaborate with IT and business teams to design and implement critical improvements to IT general controls.
o Support the development of ITGC frameworks, policies, and procedures to ensure consistency and effectiveness.
o Assist in external audits by supporting and coordinating activities to ensure all controls are documented, tested, and ready for evaluation.
o Recommend and suggest solutions to support best practices for ITGC across key areas such as user access management, data security, and system monitoring.
Longer Term Responsibilities Compliance & Regulatory Readiness:
o Ensure that IT general controls are aligned with industry standards, such as SOX (Sarbanes-Oxley), COBIT, NIST, ISO, and other relevant regulatory frameworks.
o Assist in preparation for internal and external audits by supporting and coordinating activities to ensure all controls are documented, tested, and ready for evaluation.
o Work with auditors and compliance teams to respond to audit inquiries and findings.
o Support the implementation of best practices for ITGC across key areas such as user access management, data security, and system monitoring.
Control Design and Implementation:
o Support the development of ITGC frameworks, policies, and procedures to ensure consistency and effectiveness.
o Recommend and implement best practices for ITGC across key areas such as user access management, data security, and system monitoring.
o Assist in the automation of control processes where possible to enhance efficiency.
Testing & Monitoring:
o Assist in the periodic testing and monitoring of IT general controls to ensure they are functioning as intended.
o Design and implement processes for continuous monitoring and reporting on the effectiveness of controls.
o Track and follow up on remediation efforts for any identified deficiencies.
Documentation & Reporting:
o Maintain comprehensive documentation of all IT general controls, ensuring that control descriptions, risk assessments, and remediation plans are up to date.
o Develop and deliver periodic reports on the state of IT general controls to senior management.
o Provide detailed control narratives, flowcharts, and risk matrices for key systems and processes.
Collaboration & Training:
o Work closely with cross-functional teams to ensure that control processes are well understood and consistently followed.
o Provide training and guidance to IT and business stakeholders on ITGC best practices and compliance requirements.
o Foster a culture of compliance and control awareness across the organization
