Project Manager - Design and Fitout Business Unit

We are seeking a dynamic Project Manager to lead and oversee the operational delivery of our Design and Fitout Business Unit. This role will primarily focus on managing a key account within the retail and commercial office fitout programme across the UK, with a project value of approximately £4-6 million for FY25.


Key Responsibilities:

  • Manage multiple refresh and refurbishment projects, ensuring effective stakeholder engagement and reporting.
  • Collaborate with key client stakeholders to meet and exceed client expectations, fostering an environment of delivering “the exceptional, every day.”
  • Build and maintain strong stakeholder relationships, developing best-in-class solutions to be recognized as a “Trusted Partner.”
  • Ensure compliance with the master programme of works, integrating the programme with Mitie FM and the client across each project.
  • Oversee and support the commercial outcomes of each project, working alongside the Senior Programme Manager and Commercial team to ensure best value.


Main Duties:

  • Act as a QHSE Ambassador for all retail projects, leading by example.
  • Build proactive stakeholder relationships with external stakeholders and key stakeholders within Mitie.
  • Drive sustainable organic growth of the design and fitout business unit and the wider Smart Workplace.
  • Lead and manage fitout and refurbishment projects to successful outcomes.
  • Support and influence the Projects Design, Preconstruction, and Delivery teams to create a high-quality customer service environment, focusing on Mitie's vision of “The exceptional, everyday.”
  • Drive operational excellence across all delivery partners using developed and appropriate metrics (SLAs, KPIs).
  • Oversee effective financial control across the delivery of retail projects.
  • Foster a customer-focused culture, ensuring all colleagues demonstrate Mitie values.
  • Pioneer and coordinate best practices in Social Value and Diversity & Inclusion within the Smart Workplace.
  • Develop a best-in-class team across the UK, ensuring quality, governance, and health & safety processes are followed to the highest standards.
  • Communicate effectively with all elements of the delivery team, ensuring regular operational updates, cascade briefings, team meetings, toolbox talks, and other communication and training sessions are in place.
  • Manage additional activities or projects as directed.
  • Challenge, inspire, and enable the senior team to excel in delivering clear business objectives.
  • Provide and analyze strategic management information to support a holistic strategic approach.
  • Champion a culture of excellence and innovation across the retail framework and new framework opportunities.
  • Understand the importance of culture, people, and the personal touch, ensuring regular communication, feedback, and face-to-face meetings at all levels with both the client and the Mitie team.
  • Identify, assess, and drive the development of new opportunities to add value to existing contracts, in line with the client's vision.
  • Lead by example, ensuring the team delivers quality in everything we do.


Person Specification:

  • Strategically robust with a clear passion for growing relationships, pipeline, and opportunities (CRM).
  • Please note: Experience of Fit-Out/Refurbishment projects is a must.
  • Desire to lead and a complete willingness to take accountability and responsibility.
  • Sophisticated relationship builder familiar with complex multi-stakeholder environments, with evidence of initiating and maintaining long-term partnerships with clients.
  • Energetic and determined, with a strong focus on delivering added value and exceeding client and Mitie business targets.
  • Demonstrable ability to build a target-setting culture, encouraging colleagues to excel.
  • Technically capable, commercially aware, and able to inspire and influence colleagues, supply chain, and clients.
  • Capable of identifying and delivering continuous improvement and influencing a centre of excellence across all projects.
  • Hands-on operator with experience in leading and implementing operational excellence across people, processes, and systems.
  • Experience in managing operations and client and end-user relationships within a broad service environment.
  • High-impact communication and presentation skills, with cultural empathy and emotional awareness to operate successfully at a project manager level.
