Job Title: Director of Finance

 

Company Overview:

AssetCool is a company that has developed and patented a range of functional coatings for overhead power lines that increase current-carrying capacity, reduce losses, and address other issues such as noise, corrosion, and ice accretion. In addition to the development of coatings, AssetCool has also developed world-leading robotic application technology to apply these coatings to existing overhead lines. This technology is disruptive as it permits the improvement of existing lines without rebuilding them, which can offer a 90 to 95% reduction in cost compared to business-as-usual. Accordingly, the business is at a point of rapid scaling due to receiving strong global interest from utilities. In addition to rapid scaling of an operationally complex business, the company will be undergoing a number of corporate transactions to facilitate growth in the coming years. Further, the company seeks to rapidly expand the application of its innovative coating technologies to a range of industries through an ambitious growth plan. This role will be pivotal to help team in pursuing this.


The company seeks a talented, engaged, hardworking, and critically ambitious Director of Finance to join the team and contribute to developing, maintaining, and scaling financial, operational, and commercial excellence.

 

Position Overview:

As the Director of Finance, you will join the management team of a rapidly growing, internationalizing, and scaling business set to undergo several investments in the coming years. This critical role involves driving the business strategically, being part of the management team, as well as ensuring the proper functioning of overall finance systems. Accordingly, this is a broad role which involves dealing directly with many aspects of the business.

 

Key Responsibilities:

Strategic Financial Management

·        Develop and implement financial strategies to support the company's overall business objectives.

·        Provide strategic recommendations to the CEO/CD based on financial analysis and projections.

·        Carry out the preparation of annual budgets, forecasts, and long-term financial plans.

·        Monitor industry trends and economic conditions to forecast future financial needs and risks.

·        Contribute as part of the management team to the overall growth of the company on matters such as compensation, commercial strategy, investment decisions.

Corporate Transactions

·        Prepare the necessary documents and engage directly with investors for corporate transactions.

·        Oversee company share options scheme.

Financial Operations

·        Growing a finance team for the following:

o  Managing financial transactions: purchases, new supplier set up, payments, payroll, invoices and related VAT, for UK and Worldwide purchases.

o  Ongoing cash management.

o  Preparation (and design) of incisive management accounts, and analysis to support decision making processes by senior management and the board.

o  Preparing annual financial statements and tax returns, including the annual R&D tax credit claims.

o  Management of the annual budgeting process.

o  Ensuring general compliance with taxation and other requirements.

o  Reports for investors as required.

o  Maintenance of a rolling financial forecast which feeds into the board papers, and preparation of long-range forecasts when required.

o  Collaborating with other departments to support business decisions.

o  Maintaining financial systems and software.

o  Management of external service providers in the financial arena.

o  Management of company grant/public funding applications, and on-going reporting and management.

o  Processing of payroll, HMRC and Pension related filing.

o  Providing financial guidance and support to senior management.

o  Other ad hoc project work as required.

Stakeholder Engagement

·        Collaborate with other departments to provide financial insights and support for strategic initiatives.

·        Communicate financial performance and key financial metrics to stakeholders, including the executive team and board of directors.

·        Manage relationships with banks, investors, and other financial institutions.

 

Qualifications:

·        Bachelor’s degree in Finance, Accounting, Economics, or other industry related field required.

·        MBA or Master’s degree in Finance or related field preferred.

·        ACA, ACCA or CIMA certification is a plus.

Experience:

·        Minimum of 10 years of progressive experience in finance or accounting, with at least 5 years in a leadership role.

·        Proven experience in financial planning, analysis, and strategy.

·        Experience in managing financial operations in a corporate environment

Demonstrable Traits/Skills:

·        A good positive attitude alongside the ability to show initiative and be a self-starter.

·        Highly analytical and strategic in approach.

·        Numerate with a strong current technical knowledge (accounting/ taxation).

·        Previous experience of transactional management, including payroll, and cash management.

·        Strong communication skills at all levels within the organisation.

·        Consultative and coaching style, rather than directive.

·        Resilient and resolute in achieving goals and objectives.

·        Ability to build relationships with key stakeholders.

·        Ability to work under pressure with good humour, and to motivate and inspire others to do the same.

·        Experience working with financial reporting systems and databases.

·        Proficiency in Microsoft Excel and other financial software applications.

·        Project management experience.
