Due to significant growth in our Water Sector, we are recruiting for a Programme Director (Wastewater) to take a strategic lead role on our CMDP Framework with Southern Water (SWS).


Costain have won extensive work across the water sector this year to support the AMP 8 investment cycle. This is a senior appointment, and we are looking for someone with real drive and passion to further strengthen the CMDP relationship with SWS and take the framework to the next level.


About the Role

Reporting directly to the Framework Director, this is a hands-on role working across the SWS region, as well as strategic management, client development, people management, community and customer orientation with a digital vision.


Key Responsibilities
  1. Lead the CMDP team in all aspects of wastewater delivery.
  2. Provide strategic and professional guidance to Project Directors, Construction Managers, Project Managers and wider members of the team.
  3. Actively champion wellbeing, safety and environment performance, and compliance throughout your team to create a safety culture to ensure Zero LTI and RIDDOR Incidents.
  4. Communicate extensively across all stakeholders within SWS, and internally within CMDP to leverage the maximum potential of CMDP in the AMP 8 programme of works.
  5. Develop and maintain a high-performance culture across the CMDP team, delivering efficiencies and continuous improvement.
  6. Provide whole life oversight and accountability for the successful delivery of wastewater projects, through design, procurement, assembly, commissioning, and handover.
  7. Deliver commercial and financial performance in line with budget expectations.
  8. Promote and actively demonstrate collaborative behaviours within the CMDP JV team.

About You
  1. Experienced in the leadership of complex water/wastewater projects and/or regional programmes in a collaborative delivery environment.
  2. Ability to positively engage and build strong stakeholder and partner relationships to achieve mutual success.
  3. Significant amount of contract delivery experience where you have successfully managed a regional framework of multiple projects of a complex or critical nature.
  4. Significant experience in the water sector and wastewater treatment plants.
  5. An engaging leader of people with extensive line management and development of people.
  6. Excellent knowledge, and experience of CDM and Construction & Engineering Management.
  7. Excellent knowledge of contractual forms used for collaborative project delivery.
  8. Solid commercial, financial and analytical skills.

Qualifications and Training
  1. HNC/HND or degree in a relevant engineering discipline.
  2. Chartered with an engineering, commercial or construction institution.
  3. SMSTS qualification.
  4. NEC PM accreditation (preferred).
  5. Association of Project Management APMP (preferred).
