Technical Sales Manager


Developing accounts in the southern territory, across the south of the country from Birmingham. We have an exciting opportunity to join the Scobie & Junor Group. The company covers several categories including meat netting, blended ingredients, meat manufacturing machinery, flexible plastics, meat casings and online distribution. We have two production facilities, and four sites total throughout the UK and Ireland.


We are looking for a driven and ambitious technical sales person to help us achieve double-digit growth in the next 12 months.


As Technical Sales Manager, you will be responsible for working with our customers on a consultative sales basis, identifying areas of improvement in their production processes and applying our solution-based product range.


As part of this you will also lead and/or facilitate trials in factory environments to propose ROI, yield improvements and overall product value to grow customer account sales and build long-lasting relationships. You will have commercial accountability of the customer base and will be targeted to reach margin and annual sales growth expectations.


Within this role you will have the opportunity to grow sales in meat netting, meat manufacturing machinery, flexible plastics, meat casings and blended ingredients. This is a great role for someone with a passion for the food industry and solution based focused.


This role would benefit from someone who has an established network and 3-5 years of food industry (preferably meat focussed) experience.


The role

  • Lead and/or facilitate trials in factory environments to propose ROI, yield improvements and overall product value.
  • Responsible for managing the steps in the sales process from developing the initial brief with the customer, negotiation, sale, production set up and demand planning.
  • Build strong, long-lasting relationships with customers through visits, creating JBP’s, supporting customer trials in production environments, demonstrating products and meat manufacturing machinery.
  • Forecast growth and manage long-term sales pipelines.
  • Identify new prospects and convert to active customers.
  • Maintain and develop the current customer portfolio.
  • Responsible for managing pricing and gross margin.
  • Updating and maintaining the CRM system is key to this role.


The successful applicant will have:

  • A talent for strategic critical thinking and problem solving.
  • Bachelor’s degree in a relevant subject and/or ability to display exceptional  results.
  • A collaborative approach to customer relationships, being able to look for and identify win-win solutions.
  • A proven track record of sales growth, with a focus on value creation.
  • Excellent time management, organisational and literacy skill.
  • Experience in the sale of multiple products in a complex environment.
  • Ideally 3-5 years of experience in the food industry.
  • Visiting customer sites is key for this role, therefore flexibility to meet business travel needs is required.
