Aboutthe Team

We are looking torecruit a Senior Policy Adviser which will sit within the Business,Trade and Culture Team (BTC) of the Enterprise and Growth Unit(EGU). The Enterprise and Growth Unit (EGU) promotes sustainableeconomic growth and higher productivity for the UK. We provideanalysis and advice on enterprise, innovation, private sectorinvestment and a cost-effective transition to a low-carbon economy.The Enterprise and Growth Unit has a varied and exciting agenda andwe work closely with a wide variety of other teams across theTreasury.


TheBusiness, Trade and Culture Team (BTC) is a friendly team with avaried and high-profile remit. There is a strong and supportiveteam culture that offers the successful candidate the opportunityto build networks across wider work areas. The team meets regularlyand there are multiple opportunities to participate in teamwellbeing and development activities.


Aboutthe Job

In this role, you willlead HMT’s work on policy levers of importance to manufacturingsectors, including Department for Business and Trade spendingrelating to automotive and aerospace. Specifically, youwill:


1.      Leadon spending relating to specific strategically important DBTmanufacturing sectors and assess bids relating to internationallymobile investment in thosesectors.

2.      CoordinateHMT’s approach to policy levers of importance to manufacturingsectors, ensuring the department takes a strategic view to delivergovernment objectives.

3.      Contributeto cross-government work on regional economic growth, supportingstrategic advantage through science and technology, and attractinginternationally mobile investment.

4.      OverseeHMT industry engagement relating to advanced manufacturing sectors.

5.      Linemanagement responsibility for a range D policy adviser, supportingthem to deliver high-quality outputs and providing them witheffectivementoring.

6.      Workingflexibly to support wider team and EGU objectives. We work in afast-paced part of the Treasury. You will sometimes need to workoutside your core responsibilities to support policy developmentand implementation across a range of growth policyissues.


AboutYou

The successful candidate willhave the ability to work on complex issues, using stronganalytical, numerical and qualitative reasoning skills, andcollaboration with others, to assess a range of different factors,and applying sound judgment to reach a conclusion. You will be ableto set strategic direction, making the links between differentpolicy areas and taking account of the wider context in order todeliver priorities. You’ll possess a confirmed ability to leadothers to deliver complex work programmes, setting clear plans fordelivery and managing competing short and long-termpriorities.
