The Banking and CreditTeam is a high-profile and friendly team with interests across arange of financial services issues. We lead the Treasury’s policywork on retail banking, mortgages, business lending, buildingsocieties and mutuals, dormant assets, and the Government’sstrategy for competition in financialservices.


Aboutthe Job

In this role, youwill:

  • Lead on the development anddelivery of retail banking policy to develop policy options,advising ministers and leading on delivery of thosepolicies.
  • Manage a wide-ranging andhigh-profile portfolio, delivering high quality work across shortand long term objectives, in the face of a dynamic and changingwork environment.
  • Forge strong andcollaborative relationships with partners, across industry,financial regulators and across government policy teams, to supportpolicy development and senior/ministerialengagement.


Theretail banking sector is one of the most critical in the UKeconomy, providing crucial financial services for millions ofpeople. The role is varied and high-profile, with significantministerial, parliamentary and press interest and engagement. Youwill be the day-to-day lead for HM Treasury’s work in this area,making a difference in the lives of millions of people by shapingessential financialservices.

You will have the ability toevaluate complex information and evidence, balancing trade-offs todevelop evidence-based policy advice, and communicate arecommendation in an accessible way.
