Hi We're UW. We’re on a mission to take the headache out of utilities by providing them all in one place. One bill for energy, broadband, mobile and insurance and a whole lot of savings

We’re aiming to double in size as we help more people to stop wasting time and money. Big ambitions, to be delivered by people like you.

Got your attention? Read on…

We put people first. It’s all about you.

This is an exciting opportunity for a senior Policy and Public Affairs leader to take on a strategic role at UW. You'll manage all aspects of regulatory developments that affect the energy market, helping us shape our business for the future.

Here's some of the key skills & experience we are looking for:

  • A strong track record as a policy analyst or manager, within an energy company or within another regulated sector
  • Experience advising senior leaders on regulatory developments, and the risks and options that arise as political objectives are progressed
  • Public affairs experience would be desirable, or any similar experience of forming corporate positions for public communications
  • A curious and analytical mindset
  • The ability to be precise whilst also managing uncertainty
  • Adept at written communications: reports, correspondence with official stakeholders and consultation responses
  • Strength in translating complex issues into concise summaries
  • Pragmatism with an ability to see commercial solutions
  • Organised with a high level of attention to detail

We work together. Your team and the people you will work with.

As the Head of Energy Policy & Public Affairs, you will play a key role in the Energy Compliance and Regulation team which is part of our multi-service Legal and Compliance team.

You'll report into the Head of Energy Compliance and Regulation and have regular interaction with the Legal & Compliance Director and the Executive Leadership Team. A critical part of this role is engaging with external stakeholders in government, regulators and industry bodies.

We deliver progress. What you’ll do and how you will make an impact.

As the Lead for energy policy at UW, you will help us achieve our strategic and commercial outcomes by analysing and advising on the constantly changing regulatory environment that energy suppliers operate in.

What you’ll do on a day-to-day basis:

  • Helping UW achieve our strategic and commercial outcomes by analysing and advising on the constantly changing regulatory environment that energy suppliers operate in
  • Tracking and analysing the policies, initiatives and projects developed by central government, the government department DESNZ and the regulator Ofgem; from early concepts right through to decisions that we will have to put into practice; be a key contributor to written advocacy output, such as when we issue consultation responses
  • Representing UW on industry working groups and at the trade association Energy UK
  • Advising senior colleagues and our executive on the status of developments, risks, options and opportunities
  • Working with the Communications Team to develop a public affairs strategy, helping them form policy positions on the energy issues that are in the news and are of interest or concern to our customers
  • Act as the Subject Matter Expert in the business to provide advice and guidance on energy policy
  • Line management of the Energy Policy Analyst

So why pick UW?

We’ve got big ambitions so there’s going to be plenty of challenges. There are also a lot of benefits:

  • An industry benchmarked salary. We’ll share it during your first conversation.
  • Share Options and a Save as You Earn scheme.
  • Hybrid working, with 2 days in the office. (We’re definitely open to discussing flexible working arrangements)
  • Electric Car salary sacrifice scheme through Tusker
  • Discount on our services and you get our coveted Cashback Card for free.
  • A matched contribution pension scheme and life assurance up to 4x your salary.
  • Family-friendly policies, designed to help you and your family thrive.
  • Discounted private health insurance, access to an Employee Assistance line and a free Virtual GP.
  • Belonging groups that help UW shape an even more inclusive future.
  • A commitment to helping you develop and grow in your role.
