Software Security Engineer/Cyber Security Engineer


Location: Hybrid (2 days from home + 3 days on site) at our UK Head Office in Newcastle-under-Lyme, Staffordshire, ST5 9HX


Contract: Permanent, 37.5 hours per week, Monday – Friday, 9am – 5pm


Salary: £50k - £65k pa DOE and qualification level (plus performance bonus scheme)


Are you an experienced Cyber Security Engineer looking for an exciting new challenge in the renewable energy field? This new role will play a key part in securing both our software team, and a new software platform that aims to make home energy accessible to the masses and help us to empower energy freedom for all

We specialise in our range of inverters and battery systems which allow our users to store their renewable/cheap-rate energy, ease pressure on the grid and save some serious money We’ve had extraordinary success in recent years (500% revenue growth) and are excited to be investing heavily in our UK software development business.


What You’ll Be Doing:

This is a hands-on role, where you will be working independently and autonomously to help secure the software teams’ working environment, and the software it produces. You must be comfortable working alongside the team and third parties, to ensure security is managed across all areas of the software division.


Key responsibilities include:

  • Work in the software team’s working environment and production software to curate a list of vulnerabilities, then prioritise and assist the team in mitigation.
  • Work alongside our AWS cloud partners to ensure the best security practises and tooling are utilised in our cloud environments.
  • Enable, design, and build technical solutions to security vulnerabilities.
  • Coordinate and respond to security incidents.
  • Write security documentation and oversee team training & improvement.
  • Liaise with security partners to perform gap-analysis (and subsequent remediation) against certifications such as CyberEssentials, ISO27001, DPA, GDPR, CAF, etc.


What We’re Looking For:

  • Bachelor’s or equivalent in Cyber Security, Computer Science, Information Technology etc.
  • At least 3 years of experience in system security engineering, network security, infrastructure security.
  • Proficiency in SaaS security principles and practices, with the ability to adapt to evolving technologies and threats.
  • Experience with cloud infrastructure (AWS preferred)


The following would also be preferred:


  • Some experience with hardware/IoT – but not essential.
  • Some working knowledge of industry-standard frameworks and practices, such as the NIST Cybersecurity Framework, ISO27001, SOC, NIS-2, CAF, etc)
