Mail Rail Engineer

We are now recruiting for a Mail Rail Engineer at our Mount Pleasant Mail Centre site.
Contract: Permanent
Salary:£42,756.19 per annum plus London allowance of £5,297.88 per annum
Full time 37.50 hours per week (excluding meal breaks). Typical attendance will be 08:00- 16:00 Monday to Friday.
The Role
Responsible for the Safety of 3rd Parties, contractors & surveyors when escorting into the Mail Rail tunnel network. Ensuring appropriate PPE, Risk Assessment Method Statements are in place and emergency task lighting fully charged and appropriate. Ensure bookings are maintained and timings are met within the agreed process. Provide a Mail Rail Induction to all visitors via a brief and interface with The Postal Museum when accessing the platforms under the Mail Rail attraction and Royal Mail Group demised areas.
Key aspects of the role include:
- Responsible for general fixing of tunnel & station lights throughout the tunnel network.
- Ensuring ground water levels are kept to the minimal at each station with the water pumps provided at positions along the track. Relocate pumps to other locations that require attention.
- Carrying out weekly routine inspections of tunnels & track and carry out repairs as necessary.
- Carry out the above as a singleton operation if required in emergency circumstances. Ensure all tunnel sumps are clear and pump systems are in working order.
- Responsible for general cleanliness and housekeeping of station areas, tunnels and associated areas.
- Prepare for essential work and ensure adequate spares are available for all remaining plant.
- Maintaining communication and cctv equipment
- Routinely check security of Mail Rail access & egress points and raise incidents if there are any failings or faults.
- Statutory and precautionary maintenance testing of associated equipment including Radio systems.
About you
- An experienced multi skilled mechanical and electrical engineer
- Qualified to 18th Edition IEEWiring Regulations (BS 7671: 2008) or equivalent.
- Sound understanding of Health and Safety and the ability to undertake dynamic Risk assessments as required.
- Mail Rail experience preferable.
- Good interpersonal skills as representing Royal Mail Group with external 3rd parties.
- Physically demanding role in terms of tunnel walks and manual lifting
- Ability to work on own initiative.

- Team player (working in a team of 2)
- You are required to have a full UK manual driving licence.
