Working as part of a small team you will be responsible for the delivery of a range of Health, Safety and Wellbeing activities.��

Under the direction of the team lead, you will work collaboratively in a number of areas, maintaining day to day oversight of issues, giving service users the right advice and guidance, and advocating a positive HS&W culture across the organisation.��

Communications are a key element of this role, and you will need to be an effective and confident communicator who is able to proactively engage, across all levels of the business.�

Note: the successful candidate will be expected to participate in a 24/7 on-call rota for out of hours support for lone working. This will be on a one in three/two in six basis and an on-call allowance is provided.��

Job description

You need to demonstrate a good understanding of Health, Safety and Wellbeing. We anticipate you will have worked previously in this area, are NEBOSH qualified and have the experience to understand business needs and interpret these into effective policy and processes.��

You will need to demonstrate that you can work own your own initiative on a day-to-day basis. As you will be working closely with customers, your application should evidence how you have used data and information, and your judgement, to support and resolve HS&W issues and solve problems through the provision of advice andwere taking effective action.��

To be effective in the role you need to have good communication skills. You will need to demonstrate your ability to provide complex information, both written and verbal, in a straightforward and impactful way so that it influences people to take the correct course of action.��

It is also important that you are able to work collaboratively, within the team and more widely across the business, so we will be looking to understand how you maintain effective relationships with a range of customers and stakeholders to bring about desired outcome and promote HS&W throughout the organisation.�

This is a wide-ranging role � no two days are the same � and as the Planning Inspectorate is a relatively small organisation you will be involved across the spectrum of HS&W activities, such as:�

Interpreting regulations and procedures to provide accurate advice and guidance to managers and staff from across the organisation to ensure risks are understood and mitigated appropriately�The development, and ongoing improvement, of effective policy and procedures so that staff can access the information they need, when they need itProcessing HS&W requests on the People Unit management system and authorising the ordering of personal protective equipment (PPE) and furnitureManaging the display screen equipment(DSE) training and risk assessment online system to ensure staff are compliant in this area and processing requests for ergonomic equipmentSupporting the operation of our lone working policy, ensuring staff and managers understand their responsibilities and are fully trained on the system, working with our supplier to resolve day to day queries�Providing out of hours support, on rota, and where required making decisions and escalating issues and incidentsCollating and analysing HS&W statistics , accident reports, relevant sickness data, to identify trends and make recommendationsEnsuring personal and organisational data is managed in line with organisational policies and proceduresContributing to the development of strategic initiatives for the HS&W team, and wider, for example to playing a part in how the People Unit strategic planning through the contribution of thoughts and ideas�

Office Attendance

This role is contractually based at Temple Quay House, Bristol which is currently out of use due to undergoing refurbishment work. In the interim, we have the use of alternative office space in very close proximity to Bristol Temple Meads railway station. We recognise and value the mutual benefits of hybrid working and have a flexible approach to in person attendance, which can vary dependent on the requirements of individual business units - the details of which can be discussed with candidates if invited to attend an interview.

Essential Criteria

Hold the NEBOSH General Certificate in Occupational Health and Safety�A high standard of written and oral communication skills�Experience working in a Health, Safety and Wellbeing environment�Ability to work on own initiative and effectively organise and manage a varied workload�Experience and a good understanding of the full range of MS applications including Word, Excel and Outlook.
