Job summary

This role is critical in sustaining Hamworthy Barracks Very High Readiness posture, enabling its Amphibious Life Support Equipment (ALSE) capability for both training and operations overseas. The successful applicant will take their place as an Amphibious Technician within the dive store at Hamworthy Barracks, responsible for the maintenance, inspection, and assurance of all ALSE, pumps, compressors, gauges and associated tool and test equipment held within the Unit and in overseas locations.��

This position is advertised at 37 hours per week.

The role currently being advertised has not been assessed as business critical and is therefore NOT open to applications from those who will require sponsorship under the points-based system. This is a full-time post. However, requests for flexible, part-time working and job share will be considered, taking into account at all times the operational needs of the Department.

Job description

The Amphibious Technicians play a vital role in maintaining the Amphibious Life Support Equipment (ALSE) at Hamworthy Barracks, and associated equipment required for both operational and training tasks when operating in an amphibious environment.

�The successful candidate will be expected to:

�Consistently ensure that all operational ALSE has met its 3, 6, 12 monthly servicing schedules within the 5yr cycle.� Equipment must be available in a fully serviced condition and comply with all relevant regulations and servicing criteria.Use initiative and past experience to fault-find/make technical decisions, and problem solve complex issues across all equipment types, to allow functionality and ensure training and exercises to continue without disruption.�Make sure that all (UK/Overseas) ALSE equipment, portable compressors, fixed air compressors and oxygen booster pumps are fully serviced and ready to be used at all times in support of unit readiness and capability requirements.�Consistently ensure that all associated ALSE (gauges, tool & test sets) are sent for testing within the guidelines of time and tolerances to the relevant military/civilian contractors and complete all documentation on their return, ensuring that current legislation is complied with in all respects.Agree to conduct refresher training, as controlled by the lead technician in a particular system, weekly.Maintain the installation and subsequent air quality testing; through liaisons with outside agencies and contractors, whilst remaining iaw Health & Safety and Breathing Gas Regulations/Compliance.�Undertake the management of stores, stock taking and ordering of stores to ensure the correct servicing packs are available to meet the required servicing regime timelines across all systems.Complete all documentation, both military/civilian, accurately and make available for both annual and legal audit/inspections on duties/responsibilities listed above describe the post as it is at present and is not intended to be exhaustive.� The Job holder is expected to accept reasonable alterations and additional tasks of a similar level as necessary.

Person specification

We are looking for a highly motivated individual who is:

Capable of working both independently and as part of a small team of civilian technicians, overseen by a military supervisor, the successful candidate will be expected to proactively contribute to the work of the whole team.Ideally a skilled, hands-on person with evidenced experience in practical work fields, who relishes a challenge, they should be technically minded and willing to travel several times a year in support of exercises and training courses.Prepared to undertake relevant training as required, in order to maintain required skill levels and remain current.Content to be responsible for the maintenance, inspection and assurance of all Amphibious Life Support Equipment held within the Unit; maintained in line with Chain of Command Direction & Guidance and current regulations, following the relevant policies, procedures, rules, and using your own knowledge and expertise to organise required work.Able to work at pace under pressure in a fast-paced environment (essential), the Job Holder will need to be highly motivated and efficient, approachable and customer focused.Hold a basic level of written English, Maths and IT literacy - particularly Microsoft Office applications - evidenced in their application.

Essential Criteria:

A �Team Player�, who can integrate into a blended civilian and military workforce.Technically minded, either hold the listed qualifications or be willing to undertake all required training.A willingness to travel and support overseas military exercises/training autonomously, several times per year.Must hold a full UK driving licence.

Desirable Criteria:

Working knowledge of the dive workshop environment.Understanding of equipment manuals.An understanding of basic engineering principles.Experience in an engineering maintenance role.

Completion of all identified Mandatory Training is essential. Selected candidate will be required to successfully complete the following training, required IOT maintain FE&R of ME systems (can be undertaken in post):

�Haskel Booster Pumps Technician.

�Portable Breathing Air Compressor (PBAC) Technician.

�Aiger 38 fitter/maintainer.

�Short Term Air Supply System (STASS) Technician.

�ASSET (Association of Scuba Service Engineers & Technicians) Adv Technician.

�Cylinder Testing Part 1 & 2.

�Swimmers Oxygen Breathing Apparatus (SOBA) Technician.

�Clearance Divers Life Support Equipment (CDLSE) Technician.

�Self Contained Air Diving Equipment (SCADE) Technician.

�Water Safety Equipment (WSE) Technician.

Completion of all identified Mandatory Training is essential, including Inflatable boat Maintainer Course (can be undertaken in post).
