Through this campaign you will join the Government Statistical Group (GSG), the Civil Service profession for Statisticians and Data Scientists.

Job description

The role will require you to apply your statistical skills to innovate and solve problems in data management and analysis. You will be using a range of software packages and analytical techniques. The ability to explain and communicate your findings to a varied audience will also be essential.

Key responsibilities

Your day to day tasks will require you to;
� deliver high quality statistical advice and analysis to inform debate and influence decision making
� use a range of software packages and analytical techniques
� work proactively with customers to identify requirements, share knowledge and information
� be responsible for aspects of statistical production, explain and communicate your findings
� Innovate and solve problems in data management and analysis�

Person specification

� Experience in the practical application of analysis or research with an in-depth knowledge of data sources
� Ability to manage own workload and contribute to statistical production
� Good communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to communicate complex analysis to non-specialists and contribute effectively to stakeholders
� Ability to work as part of a team to deliver high quality statistical advice and analysis, often to tight deadlines

Qualifications

To be eligible for this role you should have or be on track to obtain by September 2024:

� A first or second class honours degree in a numerate subject (2:2 minimum for Statistical Officer) containing at least 25% taught statistical content ( Statistics, Mathematics, Economics, Sciences, Business Studies, Psychology, Geography, Data Science or similar);
OR
� A higher degree, an MSc or PhD, in a subject containing formal statistical training ( Statistics, Mathematics, Economics, Sciences, Business Studies, Data Science, Psychology, Geography or similar).

Alternatively you could apply if you:

� Have worked in a statistical or data science field for a minimum of two years and are able to demonstrate Continuous Professional Development (via a logbook) in applying statistics or data science at the same level as a foundation degree or Higher National Diploma (level five), which demonstrates the expected skills as outlined in the GSG Competency framework.
OR
� Have achieved or on track to achieve a level 4 apprenticeship including at least 2 years in a statistical/data analysis field in government and are able to demonstrate continuous professional development in statistics/data analysis (via a CPD log book signed off by a manager or mentor who are members of the statistical profession).

Please note - candidates may apply in their final year of study whilst they are still awaiting their qualification result, however, formal contracts can only be offered upon confirmation of the achievement of the relevant qualification. In the case of an apprenticeship, this includes completing 2 years work experience in a statistical/data analysis field in government as part of attaining the qualification.
