LOCATION: US based. Charlotte, NC or fully remote.

THE POSITION:

TNEI is seeking to recruit a highly capable and motivated Director of Power Systems to establish, lead and expand our North America power systems business with the full support of the UK parent company. The role will focus on the launch, development, and management of power system consulting services with a focus on transmission/distribution planning and grid interconnection of renewable energy sources. The role will involve defining and introducing the right strategy for the local market to ensure the business establishes itself successfully in the region.

The ideal candidate will be an ambitious, self-driven individual with the demonstrable experience of successfully building and directing a power systems consulting team business in the US. They will have extensive and relevant energy sector experience including network modelling, power system analysis, and project engineering and be familiar with the interconnection process in multiple states. network of potential clients and associates and be adept at managing a business unit, identifying, and responding to business opportunities, and leading a team of technical consultants.

Responsibilities

The Director of Power Systems will be responsible to lead the power systems consulting business in the US and will have the following responsibilities:
  • Business Leadership: To take ownership of the US market and prepare and deliver annual business and expansion plans with the relevant strategic goals and objectives based on the needs and priorities of the market.
  • Business Development: Responsibility for local business development including calls, meetings, and marketing activity to generate new business. Undertake sales / business presentations to sell and promote TNEI's services and develop and manage key customers.
  • Resource Management: Coordination and oversight of the US power system team, ensuring that work is optimally allocated to team members and work is consistently delivered according to client expectations of quality, time and cost.
  • Technical Leadership & Excellence: Provide technical leadership to the power systems team with the ability to perform and oversee electrical power system studies related to transmission/distribution planning and interconnection feasibility studies, systems impact studies and facility studies. This includes the use of tools such as DIgSILENT Power Factory, PSS/E, IPSA, ETAP, PSCAD, EMTP-ATP, SKM etc.

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE

Essential Requirements:
  • Bachelor's or Master's Degree in Electrical Engineering or related field
  • Minimum of 10 years relevant experience
  • Understanding of and relevant experience with power systems, transmission & distribution projects and renewable energy projects, and specifically interconnection and/or transmission planning studies.
  • Proficiency with power system simulation tools such as PSS/E, TARA, DIgSILENT Power Factory, ETAP, PSCAD, EMTP-ATP, SKM etc.
  • General management experience with the ability to oversee all aspects of business operations, including recruitment and training staff, financial planning and maintaining budgets.
  • Strong understanding of how a business operates with a proven track record of demonstrating business acumen and building a business.
  • Regional expertise with a deep understanding of the country's local politics, laws, and regulations. Knowledge and experience of the renewables energy sector, customers and competitors, and a full understanding of the services offered by the company.
  • Excellent networking skills, with a strong and existing network in Renewables, and a track record of proactive business development and client relationship management.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills to communicate with clients and colleagues at all levels (written and verbal), organizational, negotiation and public presentation skills. Ability to engage with Clients, forming long term and mutually beneficial relationships.
  • Experience with the Microsoft suite of office products e.g. MS Word, Excel, Teams etc.
  • Willingness and ability to travel
  • Must have a valid driver's license and clean motor vehicle and criminal record

Desirable requirements:
  • A Master's or PhD degree in electrical engineering, and/or MBA
  • Professional Engineer's (PE) license and NCEES Record.
  • IEEE/IET Membership.
  • Proficiency with National Electrical Safety Code and IEEE / ANSI Standards
  • Familiarity with FERC and NERC compliance requirements
  • Project management, project engineering and/or consulting experience.
  • An established network of existing clients, and/or onshore/offshore renewable energy contacts in the North American energy industry.
  • A keen sense of the future challenges for the North America energy sector, and in particular the transmission and renewable energy industry.
  • Commercial awareness and pro-active in seeking out new business opportunities.
