Job description

This role sits within the National Security Division (NSD), part of the Transport Security Directorate (TSD), The NSD works across the Department for Transport (DfT), Government, and with partners to mitigate the threats the transport sector faces domestically and internationally.�

Our work continues to scope out threats to the UK's economy and ways to increase resilience.

We are looking for an HEO to work on the Department�s approach to key threats, particularly focused on economic security and casework under the National Security & Investments Act 2021 (NSIA). This will involve representing the Department�s interests across Whitehall, as well as contributing to briefings for ministers and senior officials on transport-related Foreign Direct Investment (FDI) cases.�

Responsibilities

Oversee FDI casework and support coordination of DfT�s input, including representing DfT at cross-HMG working-level meetings; work with transport sector leads in DfT to gather information and provide responses on FDI cases.Become a �subject matter expert� on state-based economic threats, supporting the policy lead in drafting policy and briefings.Provide input to policy development work on economic security, state threats and threats to critical national infrastructure.Build and maintain stakeholder engagement on state threats work across DfT, including briefing and liaison with sector experts across transport modes within DfT.

To thrive in this role you will�

Need to have strong analysis skills and are able to highlight key points in a clear way, ensuring risks are identified and delivering mitigation activity as a result.Possess excellent written briefing skills and the ability to distil complex information.Need experience of rapidly gaining an understanding of a complex field and applying this to their work.�Have experience of analysing a wide range of data across different fields and using this to make decisions.Have experience of communicating effectively with a range of stakeholders.Possess excellent drafting skills � being able to draw out key information from multiple sources and using this to present clear observations, often for a senior audience.

Additional information

The role requires DV clearance; however, candidates will be onboarded with SC Clearance and undergo DV whilst in post. Should the successful candidate not obtain DV then there will be a requirement to be re-deployed to an alternative post should a position be available.

A minimum of 60% of your working time should be spent at your principal workplace, although requirements to attend other locations for official business, or carry out detached duty in another DfT workplace, will also count towards this level of attendance.�

As you will be part of a team that works on emerging threats and hazards, you will be expected to work flexibly and adapt rapidly changing requirements and priorities across the team, wider Division and Directorate. You will be required to participate in the Department�s response to a security or civil contingencies incident. This may include out of hours working on occasion, but we make every effort to allow for your personal circumstances.
