London, United Kingdom Home Office Full time

Job summary

The Home Office is central to UK life. Our work extends from devising drugs policies and ensuring the immigration system is not being abused, to delivering an accountable policing service. Join us in this important senior role and youll lead policy development and the implementation of victim identification and support as you take joint responsibility for the running of our Modern Slavery Unit (MSU).

Job description

Youll lead two small teams of around 30 staff, and ensure the UK meets its international legal obligations relating to victims of modern slavery. Taking responsibility for the National Referral Mechanism (NRM), the UKs system for identifying and protecting modern slavery victims, youll work closely with the Single Competent Authority, which has operational responsibility for the NRM. Well expect you to ensure all adult victims of slavery receive needs-based support to assist their recovery, and design a future adult victim support model for the Governments procurement of a new contract. Youll also have policy responsibility for child victims, work that will include existing NRM decision making policy, a devolved decision making pilot and the Independent Child Trafficking Guardians programme.

Youll have a wide range of additional responsibilities, including managing litigation associated with policy areas, and co-leading the MSUs relationships with key stakeholders, including Non-Government Organisations, Local Authorities, First Responder Organisations and Devolved Administrations. Youll also take joint responsibility for the Units corporate governance, work that will include managing significant budgets, scrutinising financial, management and performance information, and identifying and mitigating key risks.

With plenty of experience working in a fast-paced policy role, and capable of coming to grips with difficult issues and driving solutions, youll be a highly effective and inspirational leader, comfortable working in a high-profile environment, and visible and approachable to everyone you work with. Your excellent interpersonal, communication and writing skills will allow you to translate complex policy issues for a range of audiences, and youll also have the ability to forge positive strategic partnerships with a diverse range of stakeholders.

Committed to creating a high-performance culture where everyone delivers their best, some experience of working closely with Ministers and senior external colleagues would be desirable. In addition, experience of leading change programmes and developing and implementing legislation would be a bonus.

In return for your skills and expertise we can offer you a great career with one of the Governments most interesting and inclusive departments. And with ongoing training and development opportunities and a highly competitive benefits package, theres no saying where your career will take you at the Home Office.
