Job summary

This is an exciting time to join the Private Rented Sector (PRS) divisions in DLUHC as we look to introduce a Renters (Reform) Bill. This landmark legislation, the most comprehensive package of reforms to the private rented sector in thirty years, will improve housing conditions for private renters, including some of the most vulnerable in society.

We are looking for two G7s for high-profile roles that will support delivery of the Bill. The successful candidates will join the Renters (Reform) Bill Team which will be responsible for managing the Bill through Parliament to Royal Assent. The team is responsible for liaising with policy colleagues, external stakeholders, legal advisers, Parliamentary Counsel, the Parliamentary Business and Legislation Secretariat and the Whips� offices to ensure introduction and safe passage of the Bill. The successful candidates will also work with policy teams across the department to unblock issues and deliver on ministerial priorities.

Job description

This is a fast paced, challenging and rewarding role, with significant levels of Ministerial engagement and briefing. Essential skills and experience include:

Strong communication skills, both verbally and orally. You will be able to communicate complex policies in a straight-forward and clear manner � to craft strong narratives, bill documentation, briefings and other material, including handling with and HMT.��Strong project management skills. You will be able to manage multiple competing and changing deadlines and deliver high quality work under pressure � to drive fast-paced preparations and progress of the Bill through Parliament to meet Bill timelines.�Able to work collaboratively and build relationships with colleagues from different teams and professions, and with stakeholders � and work effectively with Parliamentarians, lobby groups and experts.�Able to see the big picture and trouble-shoot problems, anticipating issues and developing concessions and handling strategies � to keep the Bill and policy development on track.�Good analytical skills and ability to spot gaps and identify ways to use the evidence to forward policy and handling with the centre.�Experience in policy development. You will be able to support policy teams across the division to unblock live issues and ensure the Bill meets ministerial expectations.

You are a strategic thinker who enjoys making sense of complex and conflicting evidence to create clear narratives.�You are an effective and persuasive communicator with strong written and presentational skills.�You are comfortable working independently, leading across your programme of work and communicating clearly and persuasively on strategy and policy issues, including to senior colleagues and ministers.�You are comfortable working at pace, delivering high-quality products to tight timescales, and responding flexibly to change.�You possess strong organisational skills and the ability to plan and coordinate the delivery of key milestones.
