Job Summary:
North Devon Against Domestic Abuse (NDADA) delivers quality services across Devon in response to Domestic Abuse. 

In addition to NDADA’s refuge provision, NDADA coordinate and facilitate a number of specialist IDVA services including Health, The Courts, Mental Health & Community within their outreach service. 

We are looking to recruit trainee Court IDVAs: this role will suit organised, process driven individuals with a strong attention to detail and ability to support and empathise with clients. Working with our existing Court IDVAs the Trainees will develop their knowledge and understanding of the sector and will work within a dynamic, advocacy and support service to ensure the voice of survivors informs every stage of the process specialising in working with clients who are going through the family courts and legal processes. They will work within the team to make proactive contact and provide high quality advocacy and support based upon a client led needs and risk assessment to all genders aged 18+ who are experiencing Domestic Abuse. 

The post holder will work across North Devon or Exeter under the guidance of the Operations Manager. 

The post holder will hold a caseload of clients who have experienced Domestic Abuse and are engaged with court. 

The post holder will understand domestic violence and its effects on families.

Main Duties and Responsibilities: 
1. To maintain and develop our countywide service for supporting victims of domestic abuse going through the family or civil court
2. Support colleagues and partner agencies, through awareness raising and institutional advocacy, in order to provide the best possible service for victims of domestic abuse.
3. To assess the needs of the victim and provide an appropriate service based on need/risk, enlisting appropriate pathway support as part of a client focussed and holistic approach.
4. To provide advice, information and guidance to those needing support with the family court or obtaining protective orders (appropriate to caseload)
5. Supporting clients through the civil court, and understanding the options available to victims.
6. Advocate for victims with agencies who can help address the domestic abuse by: Understanding the role of all relevant statutory and non-statutory services available to domestic abuse victims and how your role fits into them. Advise clients of their rights and options for seeking help and support from other agencies, making referrals and co-ordinating the provision of multi-agency support where necessary, and proactively advocate ensuring barriers to accessing support and protection are minimised.
7. Providing advocacy, emotional and practical support and information to victims including in relation to legal options (not legal advice) and within the court arena
8. Hold a caseload and work within the team to conduct comprehensive assessments of needs and risk for those experiencing domestic violence, carry out short- and longer-term risk management, safety planning and support; and identify and refer to services appropriate to their needs, including attendance at MARAC as required. 
9. Proactively assess the needs and safety of any children that clients using the service may have, ensure that any risks/needs identified are addressed directly with the woman, and take appropriate action to safeguard them. 
10. Proactively assess the needs and safety of women at risk giving due regard to Adult at Risk policies and procedures. 
11. Participate in multi-agency conferences in respect of children and adults at risk as required, providing reports and undertaking actions as necessary. 
12. Work with the Team Lead and/or the Operations Manager to ensure all monitoring and evaluation for the project is accurate and fully maintained, and keep managers informed of any issues and successes. 
13. Ensure that agreed case recording and monitoring systems are kept up to date and secure, and write internal and external reports where required, including for safeguarding conferences, team meetings, managers, and others. 

General duties: 
1. At all times protect the safety and security of service users, staff, volunteers and buildings, and the confidentiality of records and other information in line with general data protection requirements. 
2. Proactively assess the needs and safety of children and adults to ensure that any risks/needs identified are addressed, having full regard to NDADA’s Safeguarding Children’s policy and Safeguarding Adults at Risk policy and complying with the Local Safeguarding Children and Adults requirements. 
3. Be responsible for personal learning development and keep up to date on research, relevant legislation, policy and practice, and other literature relevant to the project.
4. Participate in supervision, training and meetings as required and work as a member of the team to ensure effective delivery of service and individual work plans. 
5. In accordance with NDADA’s case management policy be proactive with your supervisor/line manager in carrying out periodic case reviews based on a review of risk and abuse which:
o Feeds back into action planning to further progress, signpost or close cases 
o Provides feedback to your clients/other agencies
6. Ensure the effective implementation of NDADA’s policies and procedures.
7. Work across teams and undertake such other duties, appropriate to the grade and character of the work, as may reasonable be expected.
