Job Description
Gore Glen Primary School is a fairly new school in a fast growing community. It opened in August . It is situated in Gorebridge, Midlothian; an area steeped in history with a large mining community. The new Borders Railway line runs through the area and although Gorebridge is only 12 miles from Edinburgh city centre, it is surrounded by rural countryside, cycle routes and walkways.Gore Glen Primary School has approximately students in the Mainstream Primary and continues to grow year on year, 56 children in our Early Learning Centre and 24 children have access to our complex needs provision, Glenable.
We will be appointing one Deputy Head Teacher to replace the existing DHT who is moving to a Head Teacher role and a second Deputy Head Teacher for the new vacancy due to growth of the school. Alongside this, our Strategic Leadership Team also includes one ASN Principal Teacher who leads Glenable, two Primary Principal Teachers and a Senior Early Years Practitioner who leads the ELC.The role of the Depute Head Teachers is to support the Senior Leadership Team in the delivery of the strategic vision, values and aims to ensure successful delivery of high quality learning and teaching throughout the school. We work collaboratively and believe strongly in the ethos that like Geese flying in formation together, we achieve more if we work together with common goals. The Deputy Heads will be instrumental to supporting and enhancing this ethos developing a distributive leadership culture with colleagues and modelling strong collaborative and strategic practices. Each DHT will have a clear remit either within Additional Support Needs or Learning, Teaching, Assessment and Curriculum. These remits will be agreed together in completion of the recruitment process.

If you are successful, our offer of employment will be conditional on satisfactory completion of pre-employment requirements, such as medical screening, two written references, one which must be from your most recent/current employer, verification of your original qualifications and your eligibility to work in the United Kingdom. Registration with the General Teaching Council and a satisfactory PVG check for Regulated Work with Children will also be essential.

This post is considered Regulated Work with Children, under the Protection of Vulnerable Groups (Scotland) Act, . Therefore, it is an offence to apply if you are barred from working with children.
Successful candidates will require a PVG Scheme membership for Regulated Work with Children. You will be required to join the Scheme or undergo a PVG Scheme Update check prior to commencing employment with Midlothian Council, the cost of which will be met by you. The fee for a Full PVG Scheme Membership is £59. You will be required to re-pay this amount to the Council by salary deduction over 6 consecutive pay periods. The fee for a PVG Scheme Record Update is £18. You will be required to re-pay this amount to the Council by salary deduction over 2 consecutive pay periods. If your employment concludes before the amount is re-paid in full, the outstanding balance will be deducted from your final salary. If you are an existing employee the Council will pay the cost of the Application Fee.
