At the Crown Prosecution Service, we�re responsible for delivering justice through the independent and effective prosecution of crime. We�re the principal prosecuting authority across England and Wales � prosecuting criminal cases that have been investigated by the police and other investigative organisations.

As a victim service assistant, you deliver exceptional customer service whilst enhancing how we communicate and engage with victims. You�re responsible for making phone calls, drafting victim letters, and responding to victims� enquiries in a timely manner. You help victims understand the decisions we make, the role of the Crown Prosecution Service and wider criminal justice system, and their rights during the legal process. Victims� needs and welfare are central to your work.

Job description

As a victim service assistant, you deliver exceptional customer service whilst enhancing how we communicate and engage with victims. You�re responsible for making phone calls, drafting victim letters, and responding to victims� enquiries in a timely manner. You manage sensitive conversations � demonstrating empathy, integrity and good listening skills.

In this role you help victims understand the decisions we make, the role of the Crown Prosecution Service and the wider criminal justice system, and their rights during the legal process. You develop and maintain effective communications with key partner agencies � signposting victims to appropriate contact points to make sure they receive the support they need. Victims� needs and welfare are central to your work.

You undertake a six-to-eight-week training plan to ensure you�re fully equipped for the role. You must be aged 18 or over to apply.

Your responsibilities

To answer victims� queries in a timely manner with accurate and up-to-date information, and to signpost them to other appropriate contacts when necessary.To build and maintain good working relationships with external agencies and criminal justice partners, ensuring victims� needs and welfare are central to your work.To record work and activity completed on our case management system and other recording systems � maintaining accurate and confidential case management records.To make appropriate adjustments or arrangements to ensure inclusivity and meet the accessibility needs of victims.

Apprenticeship

Your apprenticeship allows you to build skills and knowledge through work-based learning whilst in your victim service assistant role. You study, write assignments, and carry out assessments � and on successful completion you gain a recognised qualification of level 3 in customer service.

You�re directly supported during your apprenticeship, with a tutor or skills coach who provides you with guidance and advice for successfully passing your apprenticeship programme. You�re allocated a minimum of 6 hours each week to carry out your apprenticeship work and learning, if you�re doing a 30 hours or more working week (full time or nearly full time working).

Person specification

To be eligible to apply for this opportunity, you must:

be at least 18 years oldhave excellent written, verbal and digital communication skills � including knowledge of Microsoft 365 applicationshold GCSEs or equivalent in maths and English at grade 4/C. If you don�t already hold these, you can complete them as part of your apprenticeship.
