Job Description

The Division is seeking to appoint a Senior Manager to lead the Financial Statistics Group (FSG). FSG is made up of 16 analysts and research assistants engaged in the production of a range of statistics, predominantly for external users such as the Office for National Statistics (ONS) and the Bank for International Settlements.

The Senior Manager will oversee all aspects of FSG's regular and project work ensuring that the appropriate level of resourcing is determined to meet the requirements of both work streams and within budget targets. The job holder will also be responsible for ensuring that FSG contributes to the effectiveness of the various project pools in DAT, including the DSD project pool and Directorate-wide projects though the provision of resources and expertise.

The Senior Manager will set strategic focus for the team, drive their results, and provide challenge as well invest in team members and act as a role model.

As a senior member of both DSD and DAT, the job holder will be expected to participate fully in and contribute to the leadership of the Division; and where appropriate, the Directorate.

The job holder will either lead or oversee the contribution to external statistical developments through close co-operation with a range of UK and international bodies. They will also support several data driven initiatives such as the Transforming Data Collection Programme and delivery of the Bank wide Data and Analytics Strategy.

Key responsibilities:
  • Lead the Financial Statistics Group in delivering its core objective of compiling and disseminating timely, high quality macroeconomic statistics.
  • Manage effectively FSG's budget and collaborate with your Senior Manager peers in the management of the Division's budget.
  • Support the delivery of and be an advocate for DAT and DSD's strategy and strategic direction.

Role Requirements

Minimum Criteria
  • Demonstrated ability to lead a team with a varied work portfolio work, delivering high quality output on schedule and able to work to tight deadlines during busy periods.
  • Experience of / an ability to influence key stakeholders (including at the most senior management levels) with a track record of delivering results through building and maintaining strong working relationships.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills, both written and oral, as the job will involve representation at senior level with major external institutions.

Essential Criteria
  • Line management skills, including ability to coach and support the development of analysts in the team.
  • Experience of leading staff with strong domain expertise.
  • Experience of structured thinking, problem solving, strategy definition.
  • Experience of carrying out complex data analysis using a variety of tools, and preferably a working knowledge of statistical production.
  • Experience of influencing both internal and external stakeholders.
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills.

Desirable Criteria
  • Some understanding/knowledge of the National Accounts and an understanding of the operations of financial institutions and financial markets.
  • Experience of managing/leading a programme of business change.

Salary and Benefits Information

We encourage flexible working, part time working and job share arrangements. Part time salary and benefits will be on a pro-rated basis as appropriate.

This role offers a competitive starting salary of £87,750. In addition, we also offer a comprehensive benefits package as detailed below:
  • A non-contributory, career average pension giving you a guaranteed retirement benefit of 1/95th of your annual salary for every year worked. There is the option to increase your pension (to 1/50th) or decrease (to 1/120th) in exchange for salary through our flexible benefits programme each year.
  • A discretionary performance award based on a current award pool.
  • A 8% benefits allowance with the option to take as salary or purchase a wide range of flexible benefits.
  • 26 days' annual leave with option to buy up to 12 additional days through flexible benefits.
  • Private medical insurance and income protection.


National Security Vetting Process

Employment in this role will be subject to the National Security Vetting clearance process (and typically can take between 6 to 12 weeks post offer) and the passing of additional Bank security checks in accordance with the Bank policy.
