Job summary

The Department for Work and Pensions (DWP) is responsible for welfare, pensions and child maintenance policy. DWP is the lead for Cluster 3 Vetting. The Cluster 3 Vetting Team provide the National Security Vetting (NSV) service for all staff and contractors whose roles require NSV in DWP and the seven Cluster 3 Partners. These are: Department of Health and Social Care, Food Standards Agency, Office of Rail and Road, OFWAT, OFGEM and OFSTED. The Cluster 3 Vetting Team adheres to His Majesty�s Government (HMG) standards and guidelines and also collaborates with UK Security Vetting (UKSV) and the other cluster leads to deliver an effective and consistent service to our partners.

In addition, the Cluster 3 Vetting Team supports work led by the DWP Personnel Security team and the wider Security & Data Protection teams to mitigate against the insider threat in DWP.

Job description

The Vetting Manager role sits within the Cluster 3 Vetting Team, part of Security and Data Protection. As a Vetting Manager, you will provide a security vetting service for the Department and its contractors, in accordance with His Majesty�s Government (HMG) standards and guidelines. In addition, you will provide personnel security support and assistance across the Department.

The responsibilities include:

Plan and conduct interviews with applicants for National Security Vetting (NSV) about sensitive personal topics.Analyse information from a range of sources to identify personnel security risks.Make effective and objective decisions against a framework to determine if NSV should be awarded.Provide business partner support to DWP�s Counter Fraud, Compliance and Debt (CFCD) Directorate by building relationships and networks with recruitment teams and hiring managers to ensure the recruitment process is streamlined.Work with colleagues on projects to manage the insider threat.Monitor and report vetting performance levels, identify issues and resolve them by suggesting improvements to processes.Engage with colleagues and stakeholders on security matters relating to vetting, personnel security and managing the insider threat.

Key Criteria

Experience operating in a customer service environment, with customer service skills and knowledge of customer service techniques.Experience of analysing complex information and making difficult decisions.Experience of written and verbal briefing skills in a professional setting.Experience of interacting with stakeholders, building rapport and managing their expectations.

Desirable Criteria

Experience of working in a security vetting or investigative environment.
