Job description

As the Principal Operational Analyst your role will be to lead the ORBs Operational Analysis Team and manage the delivery of the Land OA programme, which will require working collaboratively with industry partners and colleagues from across government. The OA programme currently includes the delivery of deployed Operational Analysis support and will continue to broaden its remit to include other areas of deployed analytical support to meet the needs of the Field Army. You will lead and manage deployed OA to the Field Army, using the Land OA tool set. You are likely to be required to deploy at readiness to operational theatres in support of any required operational surge. The role can be embedded in field conditions, which can be austere at times, so a robust character and good sense of humour are essential.

You will need you to have or attain Developed Vetting (DV) clearance. There will be a regular requirement to travel, including overseas, to attend training exercises and courses, therefore there is an expectation that you will be able to facilitate this.

We will need you to:

You will lead the delivery of the Op Research OA Team. The role involves the line management responsibility of SEO grade analysts.

The OA programme is also supported by external suppliers, whose delivery contribution requires co-ordination and management throughout the project, including commercial oversight and project deliverables. You will be responsible for the programme management of contractual delivery in conjunction with industry.

You will be responsible for the development, management and governance of deployable tools and models, with activities to maintain their continuous improvement. You will engage with 3* and 2* Army HQs to develop a programme to meet the Operational Analysis demands of the Field Army. You will also engage with the PJHQ Support to Operations Team to manage Field Army deployable analysts.

You will establish and maintain suitable pre-deployment qualifications and will ensure the OA team also maintains this requirement, whilst advising on any training needs as needed. You will ensure the OA team is ready to deploy on exercises & operations.

The role requires experience in programme and project management, stakeholder management and technical delivery together with a good level of analytical and technical knowledge. You will represent HQ LWC when liaising with the Field Army and working in support of OA tasks, delivered by external suppliers. This may include sharing Land OA knowledge or supervising outputs.

You will operate both qualitative and quantitative analytical methods, to cover areas such as statistical modelling, data mining, analytics, and visualisation. Setting the best practices for use of methods and tools among the direct team and wider pool of deployable analysts.
