The opportunity:
Are you an experienced underwriter looking for something new in Underwriting? Do you want to join an award-winning team? If so, we would love to hear from you Our Marine Trades team at Navigators and General are looking for a Market Underwriter to contribute to their ongoing growth.
You will be joining a team that is undergoing transformation following our successful growth, providing you a fantastic opportunity to leave your mark. As one of the Underwriters, you will analyse and underwrite new and renewal commercial vessel and marine combined business, regularly interacting with our specialist market.
Many of our employees work flexibly in a variety of different ways, including part-time, flexible hours, job share, an element of working from home or compressed hours. This is because we want the best people for our roles, and we recognise that sometimes those people aren't available full-time. Please talk to us at interview about the flexibility you may need.
What will you be doing?
- Underwriting and pricing of marine trade combined policies with negotiation of terms and price to fit Zurich's underwriting appetite.
- Deliver against underwriting & financial measures as outlined in the plan.
- Seek, develop and maintain relationships with brokers in support of new business and retention goals.
- Provide technical expertise for short-term, defined scope projects.
- Monitor underwriting processes to identify opportunities for improvement.
As well as the 'business as usual', you will be encouraged to support on N&G Underwriting projects. Development is important to us so not only will we invest in you, but you will also have the chance to coach and mentor our junior underwriters.
What are we looking for?
As an experienced underwriter, we would expect you to have the following skills and experience but the main thing we are looking for is the drive to succeed and help us on our continued journey of success and growth
- Property and/or Casualty underwriting experience essential.
- Ability to build and maintain strong relationships with internal colleagues and external customers and brokers.
- Ability to effectively assess risk.
- Strong verbal and written communication skills.
- Strong negotiation skills
- Knowledge of the insurance industry and the legal and regulatory environment.
