Job Description

We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Senior Life Medical Underwriter to join our team at Legal & General Group.

As a Senior Life Medical Underwriter, you will play a critical role in reviewing customer applications to identify risk factors and assess whether we can offer Life, Critical Illness Cover and Income Protection applications.

You will have the autonomy to agree to offer the customer a policy, decide on what terms to offer, or ask for more information from either the customer or their doctor.

We offer both home-based and hybrid opportunities depending on location, so we will be happy to discuss at the stage of application.

Key Responsibilities
  • Accurate Risk Assessment: Accurately assessing and documenting life and disability risks by reviewing applications and deciding which terms, if any, can be offered up to the value based on your autonomy level.
  • Project Leadership: Ability to participate in or lead projects that enhance the underwriting process and improve our systems and commercial viability, including instigating such projects, using own initiative, expertise, and business awareness.
  • Customer Communication: Ensuring any requests for further information are appropriate and accurate and commensurate with the risk being assessed, ensuring the customer journey is not impacted unnecessarily.
  • Complaint Resolution: Identifying complaints and ensuring they are acted upon quickly and root causes highlighted to ensure compliance with complaints response time limits.
  • Regulatory Compliance: Taking ownership of maintaining an excellent knowledge and understanding of legislative and regulatory requirements.
  • Service Delivery: Understanding the commitments made about the level of service during the marketing and sales processes to ensure the area is capable of meeting those expectations and that customers' reasonable expectations of performance and service are met.
  • Risk Understanding: Thorough understanding of the risk factors for mortality and morbidity, as well as financial underwriting.
  • Legislative Knowledge: Understanding of legislations and regulatory requirements would be preferable.
