Job Description

Relationships: This role is managed by Senior Officer Young Wales

Purpose: To support the Young Wales team to deliver their ambitious youth engagement programme

About the role:

Children in Wales' flagship youth engagement program 'Young Wales' delivers a number of events and activities throughout the year focused on active citizenship and hearing the voices of children and young people aged 11 – 25. This new role of Sessional Youth Engagement Worker will provide support to the Young Wales team during engagement activities such as residentials, festivals and consultation sessions.

The post-holder will need to be able to work flexibly and build strong working relationships with children and young people.

Key Responsibilities of the role:

  • To provide engagement support at a range of events and sessions organised by the Young Wales team.
  • To build positive relationships with children and young people to ensure active participation and engagement.
  • To prioritise inclusion, safeguarding and maximising meaningful impact for participants at all times.
  • To follow relevant procedures to ensure psychological and physical safety for participants including risk assessment, safeguarding procedure and follow ups/recording with line manager.
  • To contribute content to the Young Wales communications output including blogs, articles and social media content.
  • To support in the planning and pre-delivery organisation of Young Wales activities as well as post-engagement support.
  • Deliver objectives and agreed work programmes to the standards of Children in Wales
  • Undertake own administration.
  • Undertake any other reasonable duties as requested by the SLT of Children in Wales.

Person Specification

Key Requirements

Essential:

  • Good knowledge of approaches and techniques of children and young people's participation and engagement.
  • Excellent relationship building and collaboration skills.
  • Knowledge of Children's Rights and their practical application.
  • Good knowledge and working understanding of the political environment in Wales, including the Senedd, Welsh Government and local government.
  • Knowledge of Safeguarding in practice including contextual and digital safeguarding and a commitment to continuous learning and development in this area.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills (written and verbal) whilst collaborating with colleagues and external stakeholders.
  • Able to work effectively in a team, collaborating with colleagues and external stakeholders.
  • Able to represent Children in Wales with external audiences.
  • Effective organisational skills.
  • Able to produce a range of written resources, including good practice guides and toolkits for external audiences.

Children in Wales – Plant yng Nghymru is the national representative membership organisation for individuals and organisations from all sectors who work with children, young people and families in Wales. Our membership is drawn from the public-, charitable/not-for-profit- and independent-sectors.
